The activities that help in the development of the future TEFL educators

A “Teaching English as a Foreign Language” (TEFL) certification is an internationally recognized qualification to teach English nationwide and abroad. As a critical component of an international teaching job application, certification in TEFL provides opportunities in both educational and corporate institutions.

The course covers EFL theories, methodologies and techniques for effective language teaching at different levels irrespective of age groups. Knowledge, as we know requires application without which it loses its purpose. Peer teaching and group activities throughout the course look into implementation of the knowledge attained. This allows the students to discover scopes of improvements along with their areas of strength. And finally assessing becomes a mandate when it is time for the teaching practices at schools.

Before the final Teaching Practice (TP) the students are grouped or paired. Each group or pair is allotted 30 minutes (minimum) for the teaching practice which comprises of proper presentation, lesson delivery and classroom management and an integral part of it being the students using their teaching aids.

The evaluation is done by the evaluator who mainly looks into the Steps to be followed during the session, body language, intonation of voice, coordination with the members, interaction with the students and completion of assignments. The students are graded accordingly.

The above-mentioned activities are some of the most important ones in terms of the development of the future TEFL educators, especially those who are currently pursuing a comprehensive TEFL course.
