Active Living

Active Living

A brief recap of our previous discussions

-????????? We discussed how wisdom and consciousness are connected.

-????????? We spoke about the five stages of personal evolution.

1.?????? Unconscious – when we just do things at an existential level

2.?????? Aware during the event, but unaware of the response

3.?????? Aware during the event but can’t calibrate (rather react)

4.?????? Aware during the event and calibrate

5.?????? Aware before the event

-????????? We spoke about the active senses in touch, view, smell, taste, and hearing.

?Let us now move a step forward – can we make it a habit? Can we have an active life? The immediate question will be – how is “active life” different from the “life” we all live?

?

One way to describe is having a life with a purpose, at every moment. And here I am not talking about the personal, professional, and social purposes which we set for ourselves. I am talking about having a purpose for every moment of being.

?How do we do this? Well being active.

?Let’s take some examples.

?We all love cricket, and we meet many who can rattle out many statistics even from the distant past. Great, but if we ask cricket lovers how the Indian team today can improve its tactics, we will find many of these sports aficionados will struggle.

?But few will be able to bring in perspectives from statistics, history, personality, team dynamics, administration, and many other moving parts, and will articulate a perspective we never thought about.

?Or say in the case of the movies – we all like or dislike them. But only a critique can evaluate and articulate it in a structured way from the perspective of story, screenplay, acting, set, music, cinematography, and many more angles. Because while all of us see a movie, a critic sees it actively.

?

We can try to do this in all that which we do – not elevate our senses to absorb better. To take an interest in the people we meet, places we visit, food we eat, books we read, and so on. And soon we will find the world around us so much more meaningful and enjoyable.

?Our minds will open, we will have more ideas, find more solutions than problems, build relationships, and overall be more happy.

?Let’s try it. Start today.

People do not want to put in the effort to collect and analyse information on a subject and instead tend to go uncritically with whatever is being served up ??
