Activating China EDEL-VERSE
As industry specialist continues to crystal ball gazing into what would bring forth the next wave of growth in the Marketing & communication world, Metaverse no doubt have the largest spotlight. Advocators and detractors each have their field day in their corner, each raising the stake and evident on why Metaverse will be the Future, or just another Fad. Agencies likewise have been exploring involvement into this space, what is our role, what is our value add to the process, what are the rail-guards, and more.
China, like most markets is excited with this new growth opportunity, but will be approaching Metaverse with a very different angle and have its own unique characteristics.
With over 1B Chinese active internet users, the Chinese Metaverse will be huge. In Feb 2022, a Morgan Stanley report estimated that $8 Trillion market size is up for grabs with tech giants Tencent, Netease, Bytedance, Alibaba, Baidu all hopping onto the bandwagon.
In the 14th Five year plan, Metaverse together with other digital initiative are considered as national strategic focus as an enabler for digital economic growth. Interactive video, Immersive video, cloud gaming, cloud public services, AI, Virtual Reality, 8K HD video are some of the key developments that will be key to enhance social, shopping, entertainment, exhibition and other use cases. All these and more, and part of the Metaverse elements.
With mature tech infrastructure, easy to accessible VR devices, plenty of Metaverse creative hot shop, 5G internet speed, growing gaming communities, this Metaverse will be really different.
Unlike Metaverse, China's version will be heavily regulated. No crypto, No trading NFT on OpenSea Platform or alike, time in gaming for youths and children will be restricted. It will be a very different experience for Chinese users, but unique in its own sense.
