BACKGROUND
Just this morning, sitting at the kitchen table with my husband as he was sipping on his coffee, I unpacked a 3-pack case of tempered glass phone screen protectors. I am a direction reader, although, admittedly, I am a self-diagnosed dyslexic mind processor. To shorten this story a bit, I was successful in placing the new glass onto the screen face of the phone! Since the package contained 3 glass faces, I placed the remainder of the inventory of the glass wipes, lint-free cloth, sticky pads, glass frame, and the glass back into the original black box and left it on the kitchen table, to later in the day, place it along with my watch bands and other smartphone/watch paraphernalia into a drawer where all those items are kept.
THE SETUP
I then went to my office to begin my online studies.
45 SECONDS
A number of minutes later, my husband took 45 seconds to walk into the office just let me know that he was collecting the household trash and driving it to “the dumpâ€, (we live in a rural area where you drive your trash to a location that collects it). He mentioned that he placed the black box that contained the glass protectors for the phone in the trash. He did not realize I placed the remaining glass protectors and extra materials in that black box to save for later use. 45 seconds was the time my husband spent to explain to me a piece of information, seemingly very insignificant, yet, meant so much! Why? That was where I placed all the extra materials in for later use.
THE COST OF 45 SECONDS
If my husband did not take the time to let me know that he threw that box into the trash and was leaving to take that trash bag and other bags to the dump, what would be the cost? $12.00 of the materials? An argument, or escalated discussion? Would both of us become annoyed for different reasons? That 45 seconds avoided all negative emotions that may have welded up and words said to each other that cannot really be retracted afterward.
