ActionVFX's Tune-Up Season Begins!
Welcome to the January Edition of The ActionVFX Newsletter.
What's included:
Hello, friends!
I hope your 2024 has been off to a great start since my last update.
This month’s newsletter will take a slightly different approach than the past ones since I’d like to give you a quick peek behind the curtain regarding some of the things we’re doing internally at ActionVFX throughout January and February.
So let’s get to it!
The ActionVFX Tune-Up Season
In 2023, we launched a crazy number of new projects like our website redesign, AVFX+ , and our two new libraries of assets, 3D and Practice Footage .
As a result, some internal projects took a back seat so we could successfully launch those new products and features. This made us realize we needed a "Tune-Up Season" - a period focused on eliminating technical debt and setting ourselves up for a strong 2024.
Think of it like a race car pit stop - we're making adjustments and upgrades to our internal processes and tools so we can go full send in 2024.
Product Media - How You Can Help!
One of the biggest things that my team is working on during this Tune-Up Season, is doing a better job at leveraging the real-estate of our product pages to… well, showcase our products!
We’ve started adding some useful media to some of our different product pages to help users have a better understanding of how the effects can be used.?
Of course, this includes demo VFX shots that show the assets being used, but one of my favorite parts of this is being able to provide some really helpful at-a-glance info for artists to be able to reference.
Take this image for example:
It easily shows you the relative size of a Muzzle Flash based on the type of firearm you’re compositing.?

This helps address one of the most common things we see in the wild with these muzzle flashes being used: The scale is generally a bit off.
Or in this image, it provides some more realistic references for different types of muzzle attachments and the flashes that they produce:
These are just a few of the different things you can expect to see as we polish up some of our existing product pages.
If you have any VFX shots or cool breakdowns that include any of our assets, please submit them to us here , for a chance to have them featured on the product pages!
New Product Recap
In case you missed them, here is a roundup of some of our latest releases:
Fun fact: A huge increase to our Water FX category is on the horizon. So be on the lookout for Waterfalls, Oceans, and Boat Wake FX coming very soon!
Instant ActionVFX Support via AI
We’ve just rolled out a new tool that will hopefully be a significant improvement to the user experience on our website.
You’ll notice that the floating chat bubble on the bottom right corner of the website now includes a little bit of magic:
The goal with this is for us to be able to load it up with some robust documentation, product knowledge, and other not-fun things to sort through (I.E. License Agreements, Terms of Service, etc.) in an effort to provide users with near instantaneous answers to their questions.
Just like my social life, this feature is a work in progress.?
If you have a quick second to use this new chatbot, we would love to gather some feedback about what your experience was like so that we can improve it for everyone!
As mentioned, the chatbot can be found on any page of our website. You can provide your feedback using this short form.
That's all, folks!
Thanks for hanging in there and making it through this edition of the newsletter. As always, I seriously appreciate your time and attention!
I’ll see you next month!
