Actionable Intuition: Knowing When it’s Time to Change

Actionable Intuition: Knowing When it’s Time to Change

In order to act confidently and welcome change, get clear on your value

I’ve recently spent a lot of time getting clear on the value that I deliver to my audience, customers, and community.? As a result, I’m making a change changing how I work to best deliver my value.?

Today’s newsletter is inspired by the steps I take to recognize when change is needed and to feel confident that I can do the next right thing. Stay to the end (or skip to the bottom) to read about some exciting developments for The Intuition Strategist.

How do I know when to make a change?

This is one of the most common and important questions I get asked. In my experience, the single biggest signal that it’s time for me to change is a shift in the alignment of my values/the value I deliver, and direction of action.?

You may recall that Value is the V in my signature VIEW framework, and it is the bellwether of change.

?Your value can motivate change in different ways, for example:?

  • Misalignment between your values and the values of your team or organization?
  • A shift in your values due to changes in the ecosystem
  • An evolution in the value you deliver, driven by your personal growth, progression, and expansion

When I detect misaligned values, I know it is time to begin gathering data to develop a new strategic plan. By getting clear on your Value, you will be able to act confidently and welcome change when it is needed.?

How my value has evolved since starting this newsletter

I’ve recently spent a lot of time getting clear on the value that I deliver to my audience, customers, and community.? As a result, I’m changing how I work to best deliver my value.

By getting clear on your Value, you will be able to act confidently and welcome change when it is needed.?

I’ve been oriented in a new direction for a while now (almost 18 months, but who’s counting?). I left a familiar career path and, while my work changed, everything I learned and experienced over my 20 years in business strategy still remained.? When I started this newsletter over a year ago, it wasn’t clear to me where exactly I was headed.? However, my general direction was apparent:? my work was focused on using connection and creativity to drive change.?

  • Connection has been a consistent theme over the last year and a half. I’ve enjoyed hundreds of hours reconnecting with friends, meeting new connections, and connecting ideas and concepts. These connections have informed the value I deliver to my audience.?
  • My creativity has been revived. I’ve created a newsletter, crafted small experiments and curated intentional engagements to test my creative ideas. These actions have demonstrated tangible ways I can deliver this value.
  • My intuition guides where I’m heading - it’s not a precise plan or a specific destination, but the next steps I need to take to make progress along my path are recognizable as opportunities arise. By building trust in my intuition, the next right thing is more apparent.

By gaining clarity around my Value, I am able to act confidently and I welcome change when it is needed.?

Clarity emerges through action: taking a step, having a conversation, trying an approach, testing an idea. Ideas come to me as I synthesize inputs - discussing books, trying an activity from a course, seeking different perspectives, or drawing on others’ experiences.?

Reflecting on these last 18 months of change, I can see that I have gained clarity about my value.? Specifically, I now understand the value that I want to deliver to my ecosystem: my readers, customers, and community.?

The VIEW on my evolving VALUE

I can view my Value evolution through the VIEW Framework:

VALUE (1.0): What was the value I set out to deliver?

  • Connection and creativity to drive change

INSIGHT: What data and perspectives informed my decisions?

  • I gained insight through reading books, taking courses, having conversations

EMPOWERMENT: How did I continue to increase my sources of energy and maintain my drive?

  • Strength: I built skills that helped me to act and do, such as creating a newsletter, creating videos, and developing prototypes
  • Expansion: I renewed connections, met new collaborators, and grew my sources of insight

WISDOM: I learned from myself and others’ experiences

  • The ‘creator’ industry is brand new to me, and the day-to-day work is different from my old rhythms.? However, I had experience in writing thought leadership, hosting a podcast, developing strategies and advising business operators that I could pull lessons from.
  • I learned from the wisdom of experienced creators. I dove deep into a lot of podcasts, watched others on social media, joined networking groups for speakers and entrepreneurs, and kept a beginner’s mindset.

Through Insight, Empowerment, and Wisdom, I’ve been able to refine my Value so I can articulate and share it with others.??

VALUE (2.0): What is the value I am delivering?

  • I help leaders trust their gut to make decisions and get results

Making decisions to drive change

Now that I have clarity on my value, I can build a business around it.? I can make decisions that support the value I deliver and my strategy to deliver it to my customers.?

I have knowledge about what it takes for other creators and entrepreneurs? to deliver their value. I know what tools and enablers exist to help me realize my value. Now I’m ready to make informed decisions to refine my direction and how I operate.?

With clarity of my Value, I can make each next decision confidently.???
