Action is the key, not the signature

Yesterday I was asked: "What do I truly think about health and safety training for employees?"

Darlings, I would like to share my opinion by giving an example from our daily lives.

Imagine a Family: Mother, Father, children, dog, cat, parrot, turtle ... etc. (without any sexism, it's just an example). Parents have decided that it is time to discuss some rules "in da house".

Family meeting.

Parents explain house rules to the children and of course to other occupants of the house ... and ... hand out papers with the same rules written out. After giving printed rules, Parents ask ... no ... no ... DEMANDS to get acquainted with it and OF COURSE - SIGN IT.

And that's it !! The work is done !! Now, everything will go according to the rules.

And they lived happily ever after. "What a dream"- you say. But even in fairy tales, that's not the case.

Sadly, but that's how most employees and employers think about health and safety training. I don't think that our employees are kids. My point is - there is nothing wrong with a written rule, but to be honest, how often do you read rules from start to the end? That's my point!

We all are very different and we embrace information in different ways, some of us have a visual memory, others - auditory. So why or why when we have training about safety at work, we use written rules (even without pictures :) )

The same situation is other areas like HR operations ... sometimes I am in shock how many forms and documents we prepare just to have a signature. But we scared of changing it ... not because we don't want, but I think because we don't understand that we have that kind of possibility.

The walls exist only in our minds

There are so many creative ways how you can explain, show or describe in-house rules and regulations. 21-st century outside !! You can find a lot of incredible movies, instructions, games, etc. in social media and it is for free ... You even can do it by your self. Like, take a film or picture of the work process with your phone, or you can draw if you are an artistic soul.

Give some life and passion to your presentations and show the essentials.
