Action, Effort and Awareness

I have a confession to make: as a logic-based person, I use to struggle to deal with my emotions, I would often come across as being "too cold", edgy or rude. I would also easily dismiss my gut feeling. To me - our lives, the decisions we make, and the actions we take should be purely logic-based. I mean, what is there not to love about logic, right!?

For a while, this got me some pretty good results. But you know what they said about good results? Quoting Jim Collins "Good is the enemy of great". Let that sink in!

How often in our businesses, careers and lives do we settle for what is just good enough? Maybe due to fear of failure, maybe due to fear of success... The truth is mediocrity is deadly to our growth.

Don't settle for less than what you deserve, just because you are afraid to grow.

Blocking our emotions and not trusting in our own internal GPS is, is in my point of view, the ultimate formula for mediocrity. We are all meant to shine, and one of the most powerful ways be in full-bright mode on is by aligning our three brains. Yes, we all have three brains, or as some researchers put it - we have one brain with three leading centres. But don't take my words, check out this amazing article by the Australian Spinal Research Foundation: The Three Brains: Why Your Head, Heart and Gut Sometimes Conflict.

Worried about your light shining too strong for others to handle? I have two answers for you:

  1. "If they can't handle your light don't dim your light, hand them some shades" - by the amazing Lisa Nichols.
  2. "And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same" - some say it is from Nelson Mandela, others to Marianne Williamson.

"But Julio, what all these have to do with action, effort and awareness?" - you might be wondering... It's quite simple!

Our thinking translates into awareness, our emotions translate into the effort, and our identity translates into action.

In other words, our head brain is the driving force behind for our awareness, logic, and for knowing when to start, stop and continue an endeavour. Our heart brain is the driving force behind our level of effort, our emotion processing capabilities, and for the level of energy, we invest in an endeavour. Our gut is the driving force behind our actions, our ability to make things happen, and thus our identity capital.

Now, can you see how much more potent is the outcome of your work when you become aware, take action and put in the necessary effort to shift your reality!? This is a skill that is naturally present in all of us, and not just in some "chosen ones". Like any skill, it can be trained, developed and mastered.

This is why I deeply believe that we are powerful beyond measure! Let's take a look at what prevents us, form embodying our power? One word: misalignment. First in each brain and them in between them.

A huge disclaimer before we continue: By sharing these practices my goal is not for you to go ahead and do it by yourself, but to become aware of these practices and their importance, do your own research and definitely work with qualified professionals to help you benefit from these and prevent you from harming yourself.

The head-brain

It is widely known the configuration of our head brain, what most people don't know is how the communication between the right and left hemispheres of the head brain happens. Even fewer people know that usually the right and left hemispheres operate in an imbalance, one leading from chaos, thus associated with creativity, intuition and imagination and the other leading from order thus associated with logic, analysis and facts.

Some practices I know can help balance the right and left hemisphere and facilitate the communication between the two, include:

  • Hypnotherapy
  • Breathing techniques
  • Creative visualization

The heart-brain

The scientific community are growingly agreeing that the heart connection to the brain is more powerful than the brain connection to the heart. The heart also has an astounding electromagnetic field 5,000 times more powerful than what the brain is producing and 60 times greater electrical charge than the activities in the brain. It is said that the Earth’s primary resonance on a normal day is around 1 Hz, precisely the same as the coherent heart.

Some practices I know can conduce to a coherent heart include:

  • Breath-work
  • Brain-heart coherence activation/visualization
  • Mindfulness and Meditation

The gut-brain

The gut-brain, also associated with our endocrine system is responsible for regulating most of our vital functions. This is the brain that overrides our head and heart brains when we face a perceived life-threatening danger. It is literally the oil that keeps our machine running. My very personal rule of thumb when dealing with our body is first to listen to it and then before reaching out to manufactured remedy look of natural medicine.

  • Diet tailored to you and to your goals
  • Exercise tailored to you and to your goals
  • Sleep tailored to you and to your goals

From my experience, all these practices end up affecting no just a single brain but all three of them. I categorized them, as I did, according to which brain a see affects sooner rather later in my personal experience and in many of my clients. Yet, each one of us is unique and you would be treated as a unique person.

In a nutshell, this is how I use awareness, action and effort to take massive aligned action to realize my goals.

You not playing full-out is making a huge disservice not only to yourself but to the whole world.

Again as a natural logic-based person, it was hard for me to understand how non-directed related business and career skillsets, tools and practice could affect our performance. It took me a minute to remember that behind every business, career and legacy there is at a human (or more) staying whole in its complexity. You won't be able to take your business into the next level if you don't level up yourself. Remember: you can only give what you have.

Please share your thoughts in the comments below! Did you know about the three brains? How do you feel about this information? What other practices do you use to harmonize your three brains? Whom can you recommend to support us in this endeavour?

Pro-tip: Instead of looking for quick-fixes, try looking for long-lasting results obtained for dealing with the root cause of the issues you are facing and not just the symptoms of the issues.
