Action- Centered Leadership model is the blueprint that highlights the steps to be taken by a leader when managing a team and that is what differentiates good leaders from great ones. Below is the guide that explains it to you in detail and the way in which it can be helpful to you.
So dive right in!
What is it?
The action-centered Leadership model thinks of leadership in terms of three overlapping circles of responsibility and emphasizes the relationship amongst them. The needs of task, team, and individual are the forever focal points of leadership and therefore should be constantly taken into account by the leader. The three circles indicate the core areas of concern for the leader which include: achieving the common task; establishing and meeting the needs of individual team members; and building and cultivating an innovative culture in the team. If all three elements are satisfied, then the team becomes effective, achieving the required results.
Each element of the model is important equally and success comes when the right balance is achieved amongst all three. A smart leader will vary the amount of emphasis upon the three components in order to respond to any situation, but still, be mindful of the fact that each component holds an influence upon the other two.
It is not expected that these functions are performed by one person only; indeed they can be delegated as thought appropriate. But still, it is with the leader that the buck ultimately stops in all three areas of concern.
How can this help me?
The model can be useful to leaders at all levels within the organization to identify areas where they may be over or underperforming, clearly indicating where the emphasis is needed, and thus helping to keep a balance and unity between the three areas of leadership responsibility. It also clearly illustrates the impact which each component has upon the other two elements, ensuring that the needs of the individual, task, and team are constantly met.
