Acting vs Thinking: what you're getting wrong

Have you heard of an action bias vs a thinking bias?

A bias towards action means you prefer to act. While you may not have thought through all the answers or possible outcomes, moving forward is most important.

A thinking bias is just that, you’re stuck in the thinking loop. You may think about…

  • Looking for a new role?instead of?updating your CV and networking
  • Wondering how to have more confidence?instead of?doing activities that increase your self-belief
  • Wanting to spend more time with your spouse?instead of?booking the babysitter and those theatre tickets

In the above examples, it is clear to see where and how to get out of the thinking bias. It is easy to spot where you can move to action.

What I want you to know, today, is that action?starts?with thinking, and in particular, your mindset about action.

I see too many people discount slow progress, small steps, or the internal work that needs to be done as?not?acting.

I want this to stop. I want you to stop beating yourself up for thinking progress must be made in minutes and hours, and not weeks, months, and years.

Because getting ready to make progress and getting your?brain in?the correct frame of mind, is progress.?You are setting yourself up to achieve what you want.

I’d like to argue that the biggest progress and action you can take looks like thinking. Creating inner strength, knowing you have your own back, and building the self-belief to fully follow through in your own time are some of the hardest thought work you’ll ever do.

If you are ready to create an inner self-belief that will feel like a leapfrog of progress,?today is the last day?to register for the June cohort of Rise to?Your?Potential.?We start on Monday 26 June?and this unique self-leadership and group coaching program will help you make the inner thinking progress so you can act – have the career or the life you’ve been hiding from, that you've only been?thinking?about.

P.S. Yes, I’m changing the name to Rise to?Your?Potential. That?Your?is of the utmost importance. No two people on the Rise to Your Potential program have had the same career or personal goals, but what they did have in common was the commitment to self-leadership and figuring out what was right for them. Do you have this same drive and commitment to you?

Mindset is everything. Without it action is hard, unfocused and often ineffective. Great post Holly.
