Today I want to discuss how leading from your higher self naturally creates a state of integrity.? Visit my article on Leading with Integrity for the unabridged version.
It is clear that leaders aim to gain the trust of their teams, but this isn't always achieved.? Research ?has shown startling gaps between organisational value statements and the behaviours of leaders, with 83% of leaders acknowledging the existence of these statements but only 38% feeling closely aligned with them. Remarkably, 63% of surveyed individuals felt there was a misalignment, indicating a profound disconnect.? I believe this is when a lack of integrity is a common theme.
What is Integrity?
Defining integrity can be elusive. For me, integrity in leadership means a steadfast commitment to internal guidance , acting out of love, and kindness for all involved. It involves honesty, transparency, and the removal of ego from decision-making.
Acting with Integrity can be challenging.? It demands that actions and decisions align with core values, even amidst challenges or temptations. Sometimes it demands bravery and going against the cultural norm.
Leading With Integrity And Higher Self LeaDERSHIP
Higher self leadership transcends ego-driven desires, tapping into inner wisdom and intuition. It calls for alignment with core values and authenticity, crucial elements missing when integrity is absent.
When leaders operate from their higher selves, they inherently prioritise honesty, authenticity , and ethical conduct. This is because they are aligned with their true nature.? While it might be an illusive state, it is available to everyone willing to find it.? This form of leadership inspires trust and respect , fostering a culture of transparency and accountability. Integrity then becomes not just a principle but the guiding light of leadership, encouraging a collective striving towards ethical behaviour and sustainable success.
Integrity as the Bedrock of Effective Leadership
Integrity builds the trust and credibility essential within teams. It creates an environment where open communication and collaboration flourish, driving innovation and progress. Leaders who embody integrity inspire confidence and loyalty, establishing a positive work culture where every individual feels valued.
Your team knows when you are acting with integrity or not.? They may not be able to articulate when you are, but they will feel it.? They will on a conscious or unconscious level get the message that you are articulating, whether that be one with integrity or one without.
The Neurological and Social Dimensions of Integrity
When we act with integrity, our brain releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward. This chemical release reinforces behaviours that align with our deeply held values, making integrity not just a moral choice but a neurologically rewarding one. Furthermore, integrity strengthens social bonds and fosters trust among colleagues, which are essential for creating a harmonious and productive work environment. By consistently acting with integrity, individuals enhance their relationships and establish a foundation of mutual respect and cooperation, which are critical for team success and organizational growth.

These are just a sample of some of the behaviours that break trust and demonstrate a lack of integrity.? Conversely part of our development is recognising those times when we don't act with integrity and learning to choose a different path or way.? ?We always know when we are not acting with integrity, even if it's the faintest discomfort or full-blown negative emotion.? This is because our true nature which is filled with integrity is disagreeing with us.? Profound, I know.
Acting with Integrity
Acting with integrity doesn't mean we have to be perfect.? It can mean that we admit we don't know all the answers ; and that often we might get it wrong.? ?It is the willingness to be vulnerable and open to all points of view.? ?It involves more than adhering to ethical codes; it embodies honest communication, consistency, accountability, and respect for others. Leaders demonstrating these traits not only command respect but also engage effectively with their teams.
