Attachment Coaching for Teams (ACT) is a unique coaching solution I’ve created based on my thousands of hours of coaching experience in both teams and 1-to-1, underpinned by insights from the research-based field of attachment theory.

There is a huge amount on social media about attachment styles – rooted in the world-renowned field of attachment theory extending back many decades - but it’s most often spoken about in the context of dating and narcissism.

Nobody talks specifically about the impact of attachment styles in teams of more than 2 colleagues interacting in companies. Yet it is totally logical that somebody doesn’t simply turn off their attachment style when they engage at work in teams.

I am here to change that and unlock this potential in your teams through the coaching I provide.

Why Does Attachment Theory Matter In Teams?

Attachment theory considers how human beings are wired naturally – often since the earliest years of life – to interact with each other.

?

This works well for some – however, even those people in teams who seem OK can be impacted by the attachment styles of others in teams, particularly as the people in teams change and colleagues are required to adapt to new attachment styles being brought in.

?

For example, are you and your team members securely attached or insecurely attached? Oftentimes attachment styles vary significantly from one person to another. If you or your colleagues are insecurely attached is it dismissive avoidance or fearful avoidance that might be limiting your success? Or perhaps anxious attachment?

?

If you haven’t heard of these terms before or don’t know what they mean you could be missing out on a great opportunity for your teams to work more effectively, efficiently and happily together!

Attachment styles have just as much of an impact – arguably more – in the context of teams than on individuals because the network of interactions is often so much broader with potential for variation through unpredictability of the moving parts of a team's structure.

Yet much of the support/intervention available in companies in any sector generally channels people down the therapy route (through employee support helplines) or the mentoring route (through arranged schemes) – neither of which address the ‘crossing-over’ space of attachment styles (often developed in the earliest years of our life) that are the most prevalent in daily interactions.


Attachment coaching for teams will help you make better use of any personality profiling techniques you may have taken your teams through. It is different to merely categorising people in terms of personality types, however, as attachment runs much deeper than many personality traits on the surface which team members may exhibit day-to-day.

Instead, through understanding the team dynamics around attachment patterns we can shine the light on the attachment styles and skills team members bring and identify how they can best blend with what other colleagues bring.

Attachment Coaching for Teams is available to individuals too – however, of course I already factor in attachment styles into any individual coaching I provide my clients with. This coaching is designed to run either standalone or in parallel with other coaching you may already have for teams – to complement it – as understanding the impact of attachment styles is not a skillset that usually is a specialism in coaching.
