Act Like A Pilgrim

Act Like A Pilgrim

It sure doesn’t feel like there is a whole lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Considering all the bad things that happened this year, it would be easy to decry 2020 as the year Thanksgiving died. Not so fast.

We do have it tough right now. But we don’t have it as tough as the Mayflower passengers who left for America in September of 1620. After 66 grueling days at sea, half of the 102 passengers died before ever leaving the ship. And yet in November of 1621, they found a reason to be thankful, celebrating the first Thanksgiving. They didn’t grieve over everything they lost. They didn’t obsess over everything that was wrong. Instead, they looked toward everything they had to be thankful for. They looked forward, not back.

I urge you not to look back. Looking back on fond memories only makes you long for yesterday. Looking back on bad memories only makes you anxious about the future. You cannot live in the past or the future, you can only live in the now.

So, live in the now. Live in the today. Be thankful for whatever you have right now. Look forward, not back-just like the pilgrims did.
