As of February 2024, the most visited website in the world is Google.
The online platform has held the top spot as the most popular website since June 2010.
But now, that top spot might be in jeopardy. You see, with the emergence of new AI chatbots like ChatGPT , the landscape is shifting.
Following Microsoft's announcement of Bing , powered by ChatGPT, on February 7th 2023, there was a sharp rise in downloads of the Bing mobile app .
Google's response? Gemini .
Gemini (Formerly called Bard) is Google's latest AI Model, Gemini promises to "demonstrate more power and capability than its predecessor with multimodality features that seamlessly process multimedia, i.e., text, images, video, audio, and code."
CEO of Alphabet Sundar Pichai says ; "This is a significant milestone in the development of AI, and the start of a new era for us at Google as we continue to rapidly innovate and responsibly advance the capabilities of our models."
Google's future success hinges heavily on its ability to conquer artificial intelligence and seamlessly integrate it into its array of services. However, given its track record of faltering in the realm of social media, the outcome is far from certain.
Although we know Google as a search engine what they really are is a massive advertising company, so much so that 77% of its revenue comes from advertising .
Recently, Google is restructuring , including layoffs in its ad sales department, to refocus its 30,000-person workforce on AI-driven solutions. This shift towards generative AI and automation suggests a broader industry transformation.
In conclusion, Google will need to look at mastering AI search to build on their current successes, if not, we can see a lot less "googling" in the future.
