Across The Social-Verse

We did a family day out at the weekend. My wife had booked tickets to go see into the spiderverse live in concert before it heads off for it’s world tour.

The journey up was largely uneventful but the we arrived in Waterloo with some time to spare and headed to a nearby Lebanese restaurant to fuel up before the big event.

As we headed in my young sons excitment started to build. He’s seen the film hundereds of times but not like this. With a live orchestra, DJ and Daniel Pemberton (the films composer).

The lights dimmed, and then the opening credits scored kicked in with live drumming and boom. All 4 of us (my wife and 2 kids) were utterly entranced for the 2 hours.

For those unfamiliar with the plot I’ll summarise?

In the film, Miles goes on an adventure with Gwen Stacy / Spider-Woman (Steinfeld) across the multiverse, where he meets a team of Spider-People led by Miguel O'Hara / Spider-Man 2099 (Isaac) known as the Spider-Society, but comes into conflict with them over handling a new threat in the form of the Spot (Schwartzman).

Interdimensional hijinks ensue. But the main themes are the transition from child to adulthood (a recurring theme in Spider Man comics) and the concept of changing our own fate.

The characters travel to a dimension populated by 100’s of Spider-women, Spider-Men and even Spider- Cars (don’t ask).

As the CEO you're the face of the company right. But what if we could take you and multiply you a hundred, heck even a thousand times over? Just like those other Spider-Men?

Guess what we can. Through your employees. By giving them the tools and resources to lean into their own stories. Which creates a feedback loop into your own brand culture and story. You hired these people for a reason right??

Then watch as they…

  • Attract more talent by sharing your brands values through own stories and content.
  • Have more and more conversational sales opportunities at scale. This ain’t just for your sales guys and gals either, your nerds (technical peeps) are MUCH more relevant to start those conversations than you realise. Like my friend Tony Moura who works at IBM.
  • Give you more brand share of voice at scale.
  • Make you more agile.

And do you want to know the secret formula for the web fluid that hold this whole thing together? Allowing you to swing freely past your competition??

TRUST.

That much power shouldn’t reside in the hands of just one person. Look at what happens to the spot. Just saying.

Remember with great power comes great responsibility (I always wanted to say that in a Newsletter). So how about sharing some of it with your team.

It’s a crazy enough of an idea to work. And the smart brands are already doing it.

Until next time web swingers!?
