Across the Bay
By K. Elizabeth McKee
Across the bay, his heart will stay, where the mighty men and water play,
Where storms arise, to earn the prize, yet miles and waves away.
He commands the brave, controls the wave, only the strongest sailors portray.
No greater joy that matches his heart for the beauty beyond the bay.
The iron mast, the horizon vast, where many await the day,
A storm has clashed, the lads abashed, as they fight the fools away.
He struggles and strives, she stays alive, as dangers pass, behold the fray.
To the sailor's heart belongs, the trophy adorns, and he sails his last of the bay.
His salty tear, his beating heart, his last farewell to the water play,
He waves goodbye to the evening sky, and sails his beauty away.
