ACP@WORK: October Issue

ACP@WORK: October Issue

A Note from Our Senior Vice President

Jana Toner from the DC Office

“Even if you are on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.” - Will Rogers, actor?and humorist.

Will Rogers did not invent this concept, and since his time, many variations of the same theme have emerged in quotes. The internet provides hundreds of examples for a reason. This principle applies to all aspects of our personal and professional lives. No business can afford to stand still, cease improvement?or halt innovation?and neither can we.

It’s never too late to evolve. ACP launched the “Career Blueprint” webinar series to offer professional development content to our audience of Mentors, Protégés, Alumni?and Partners, with the specific goal of encouraging improvement. Previous topics have included learning self-advocacy, combating imposter syndrome?and nurturing positive leadership traits. All these topics are applicable to various stages of one's work life, regardless of where you might find yourself.

Mentoring is a crucial part of the growth process for both Mentors and Protégés. That's why we consistently advocate for mentoring at ACP. Mentors compel us to assess our situations and make improvements, while the act of mentoring itself forces Mentors to enhance their own styles. ACP Mentors consistently rate their experience with ACP at a 99% satisfaction rate and return for more because of the assistance it provides to Veterans and Military Spouses and the personal satisfaction it offers in return. If you're on a mentoring break or have yet to sign up, join us today. Use the rest of 2023 to continue your growth.

Support ACP's Mission Today

"I've really enjoyed the process with my mentor, Josh. He's helped me land several offers, increase my network?and learn how to strategize for interviews. I'm appreciative to Josh and ACP, and I'm very excited about my new position!”- Peter J., U.S. Army Reserve, O-1, Denver, CO

This month, please consider making a small donation to our program in order to support the career development of Veterans like Peter.

Who's Who at ACP

Deirdre Gordon, Philanthropy Sr. Vice President

Deirdre Gordon, Philanthropy Sr. Vice President

Volunteering as a Mentor for ACP inspired Deirdre Gordon to join ACP in a professional capacity. A five-time Mentor who initially connected with ACP through Ellevate, a global women’s network, she has witnessed firsthand the impact of the program on Veterans and active-duty Military Spouses.

"I’m inspired every day by the Protégés I’ve mentored through ACP, so I’m thrilled to take on a new role to ensure that ACP's mission endures far into the future."

Motivated by her family’s military service – every prior generation has served in the U.S. military dating back to the Revolutionary War – Deirdre is committed to ensuring that active-duty Military Spouses and Veterans receive the support they need to leverage their extraordinary abilities, training, education and experience in meaningful roles.

Deirdre brings a deep passion for creating opportunities and access through career development and higher education. In her ACP role, she focuses on developing a strategic fundraising program to ensure ACP's important mission is fulfilled well into the future. Deirdre has extensive experience in engaging stakeholders from diverse groups. During her 16+ years in fundraising, she has consistently exceeded ambitious goals and her entrepreneurial approach opens new avenues of support.

Based in North Carolina, Deirdre spends her time volunteering with her alma mater, Duke University, leading strategic initiatives at her church, pursuing her interests and traveling with her partner, Michael. She also enjoys spending quality time with her college-aged sons and bonus kids, including the one who is a UNC student (if you know college basketball, you understand that challenge).
