Acing Your Next Interview: (final) part 4

Acing Your Next Interview: (final) part 4

Welcome back to the last part of our "How to Ace Your Next Interview" series! We've covered a lot of ground so far, from crafting compelling responses to common interview questions to leveraging AI tools for better preparation. Today, we're diving into what you can do after an initial phone screen to really set yourself apart and secure that next interview.

After that initial phone screen with the recruiter, you're eager to secure that next interview, right? Well, here's a little secret weapon: send a thank you note. I know, I know, it might seem old-fashioned, but trust me, it still holds weight, especially in today's competitive job market.

But here's the twist: don't just send a traditional thank you note. Instead, use Loom. What's Loom, you ask? It's a fantastic tool that allows you to record personalized video messages and share them with ease. And guess what? Most recruiters have probably never received a thank you video before, so you'll instantly stand out from the crowd.

Here's how it works: after your interview, hop on Loom.com (the free version if you'd like, I use the paid version because I make 2+ looms/day for new connections, clients, tutorials, etc.) and record a brief video expressing your gratitude for the opportunity. Be enthusiastic, be genuine, and be yourself. Mention something specific you discussed during the interview to show that you were actively engaged. Then, trim the video as needed and share the link with the recruiter via LinkedIn or email. Here is an example thank you video I made, feel free to steal the script. If you make one, feel free to send me the link, I'd be happy to look it over and give you feedback (no judgment!)

If you've never used Loom, I've also made a short tutorial explaining how to film a video and send it to someone.

The beauty of Loom is its simplicity and effectiveness. It's a quick and easy way to leave a lasting impression and demonstrate your enthusiasm for the role. And the best part? It's free! So why not give it a try for your next interview and see how it helps you stand out?

Here's what one member of my private mentorship group said after he sent a loom to a recruiter:

(Excerpt from a voice recording, spoiler alert, he got the job! Congrats again J.N.)

Trust me, this simple gesture can make a world of difference. Recruiters are inundated with generic thank-you emails, but a personalized video? That's a game-changer.

So, after your next interview, give Loom a try and see the difference it makes. And hey, if you do use it, I'd love to hear about your experience! Drop me a message and let me know how it goes. (I know this sounds like an ad for Loom but I promise it's not, I'm just a huge fan)

That wraps up Part Four of our series, but if you're hungry for more interview tips and tricks, let me know! I'm always here to help you navigate the ins and outs of the job search process. Whether you're just starting out in your career or looking to make a career change, I hope you've found these tips helpful and empowering.

And remember, the interview is just one part of the job search puzzle. Keep honing your skills, leveraging AI tools, and exploring creative ways to showcase your value. With determination and perseverance, you'll land that dream job in no time.

Until next time, keep shining bright and chasing those career goals!
