Achieving Your Unique Voice and Style with ChatGPT

Achieving Your Unique Voice and Style with ChatGPT

Want to know how to write content and emails with ChatGPT that actually get close to your unique voice and style?

One of the biggest frustrations with using AI to facilitate content creation is that it just doesn’t sound like you.?

It sounds like an algorithm feeding content word by word using a black box algorithm. But here’s how to fix that.

First, I need to give credit to my business coach, Ross O'Lochlainn , who has been teaching his coaching group this and a lot more about what’s possible when “training your robot writer.” This has many more layers, but this will get you started.

SIDENOTE: I highly recommend checking out Ross’ stuff. I’ll drop a link to his site in the comments, or you can search for Conversion Engineering.

STEP 1

Choose a piece of content that represents your style, voice, and core expertise. Make sure it’s at least 500 words. Also, be aware that if you want it to analyze a longer piece of content, you might need to feed it the article in multiple prompts.

STEP 2

TIP: Use ChatGPT 4.0 by signing up for a premium account. You’ll get much better output.?

Enter the following prompt into ChatGPT:

Analyze the voice and style of my writing based on the following article. Provide your analysis in the form of a prompt that I can use to instruct you on how to create content that sounds like mine. No detail is too small.?

“[PASTE ARTICLE EXAMPLE IN QUOTES]”

STEP 3

Copy the output and keep it handy for future use. I recommend keeping it in software such as Textexpander that will allow you to quickly feed it to ChatGPT with a few keystrokes.?

Here’s a shortened example of what ChatGPT created for me in response to one of my recent articles.

“Please write an article in a conversational but sophisticated style, critiquing common misconceptions about digital marketing. Draw from personal experiences, using analogies to explain complex ideas. The article should promote authenticity and alignment with personal values, provide practical insights, and end with thought-provoking questions to encourage reader reflection and engagement.”

IMPORTANT: You will still need to give ChatGPT info about your intended audience, an outline for the article, and other “raw material,” but the voice prompt will help ensure it sounds closer to something you would write, cutting down on editing.?

You will also need to edit the output when using these voice guidelines with ChatGPT, but you’ll have something closer to sounding like you than otherwise.

Are you using ChatGPT or other AI in your business? Do you have a tip to share about getting better output from AI?

Thanks for the helpful tips Jason Van Orden! While I still prefer my own writing without support from ChatGPT, I have occasionally plugged in some asks to see what it churns out. As expected, some good, some bad, The prompt you give seems like it will indeed be helpful to get outputs that are more aligned with the author's own writing style. May have to consider the premium version. Thanks for the guidance!

And to think I've only been using ChatGPT for research! If I could have this AI write in my style I could exponentially cause even more trouble for myself! Good post, Jason Van Orden, it's time for me to upgrade to a ChatGPT 4.0 Premium Account.

Thank you SO much for this prompt Jason Van Orden... Enter the following prompt into ChatGPT: Analyze the voice and style of my writing based on the following article. Provide your analysis in the form of a prompt that I can use to instruct you on how to create content that sounds like mine. No detail is too small.? “[PASTE ARTICLE EXAMPLE IN QUOTES]” That will be very helpful going forward. I knew that this sort of thing was possible, but didn't know how to word the prompt. Also, I've heard that ChatGPT 4.0 is way better than the free version. I haven't pulled the trigger yet but will need to do so.
