Not Achieving Your Goals… What Now?

A couple of weeks ago, I saw this post, and it just kept me thinking...

I was moved by most of the responses because one can set a goal for themselves for a certain period and see that period run over time, continuously being unsuccessful in reaching that goal. After a while, it becomes disheartening to even look forward to achieving that goal.

Additionally, it is hard to explain the difficulty of this to others or even to yourself. So, what should one do when their goals are not achieved in a 'reasonable' amount of time?

Acceptance: despite your efforts, it is imperative to accept that life is a journey. It means that not everything will work out as you had hoped, even if you made detailed plans. Therefore, keep an open mind about the possibility of cracks in your walls for your sanity and peace.

Through that acceptance, start falling in love with the process: don't focus on the destination so intently that you miss the beauty of the journey; instead, fall in love with the work-related process, including the good and bad times as well as the small things. If you consider everything as a learning opportunity where you may consistently explore new concepts and experiences, you will experience positive progress.

Be realistic: after setting your objectives, don't anticipate quick success; invest in goals that are more likely to come true; educate yourself on all areas of this aim; and then break your goal down into smaller, more achievable steps.

Research is important:?You can utilize other people's experiences as a benchmark for your own by locating someone (in person or through social media stories) who has been in your position or who has achieved your ambitions. If you're having problems, there's a good chance that others in your field have experienced them as well. Don't hesitate to share your views and ideas with others; you never know what can help you in achieving your goals. Seek feedback from others.

Accountability: hold yourself accountable if you don't finish your tasks. It requires responsibility to learn a few things. Be proactive by taking action and making plans to correct your mistakes. To get a push or an accountability partner, share your goal with others.

Keep going: if you give up, you won't have anything, and all your efforts will have been in vain.
