Taking control of your health can feel overwhelming, but with a personalized approach, you can create a wellness blueprint tailored to your unique needs—one that helps you feel your best every day, no matter your age or lifestyle.

I just celebrated my 73rd birthday and I feel amazing! For me, age is more than just a number—it’s a testament to the life I’ve lived and the energy I still have. The reason I feel so great? I made the choice to take care of myself, guided by a clear sense of my ‘why.’?

I want to feel good, function well, and yes, look years younger than my chronological age! This allows me to fully enjoy my life. I cherish spending time with friends and family... especially my husband, my children, and my five incredible grandchildren. :-) I love to travel, hike, and see the world, and I want to continue having the energy to be active in my community, teach, volunteer, and help others. That’s my "why."

Once I identified my why, everything else fell into place. I committed to regular exercise, learned to listen to my body, and focused on eating the right foods—clean, mostly organic, and tailored to my needs. This combination has been my recipe for feeling great at 73, and now, as my birthday gift to you, I’m sharing some of the strategies that have worked for me.

??The Power of Daily Choices: Why Your'Why' Matters

Each day, you make around 35,000 decisions—many of which directly impact your health and well-being. From what you eat to how you manage stress, these choices add up. When you’re clear on your "why" and keep it in focus, making decisions that align with your goals becomes second nature.

Your "why" acts as a powerful motivator, guiding you to exercise, eat mindfully, and prioritize rest with purpose and intention. Remember, wellness is cumulative—unhealthy choices may not show their effects right away, but over time, they can lead to a decline in health or a sudden breakdown. Staying mindful of your "why" helps ensure that each choice supports your long-term well-being.

To help you identify your "why," try this simple exercise:

  1. Grab a piece of paper.
  2. At the top, write “My Why”
  3. List what drives you:?Is it your family? Your career? Fitting into your favorite jeans? There’s no right or wrong answer—just what matters most to you.
  4. Bring your "why" into daily decisions:?When choosing whether to work out, have that second dessert, or stay up late, ask yourself—does this choice align with my "why"?

By keeping your "why" in mind, you’ll find it easier to make decisions that support the life you truly want to live.

?? Craft Your Personalized Self-Care Blueprint

With your "why" in mind, the next step is to create a personalized blueprint that supports your well-being. In today’s fast-paced, often stressful, and frequently toxic world, taking care of yourself is more important than ever. But what that looks like can vary from person to person, so understanding what truly nurtures you is key to making it effective. Here’s a simple exercise to help you define your self-care needs and create your own Wellness Blueprint:

  1. Grab a piece of paper.
  2. Draw a line down the middle of the page.
  3. On one side, write “I feel better when…”?and on the other, write “I feel worse when…”
  4. Brainstorm a list for each column.?

Your list might look something like this:

I feel better when...

  • I take a 10-minute walk after lunch
  • I spend time with loved ones
  • I get at least 7 hours of sleep
  • I eat a plant-based diet

I feel worse when...

  • I skip meals because I’m too busy
  • I stay up late watching TV
  • I overload my schedule with commitments
  • I eat dairy and gluten

Seeing these patterns can be enlightening. If you feel better when you take a walk after lunch, find ways to incorporate that into your routine more often. If you feel worse when you overload your schedule, consider scaling back and focusing on fewer tasks.

Self-care is not just about eliminating stressors; it’s also about incorporating activities that rejuvenate you. By taking stock of what’s working for you and what isn’t, you can aim to do a little more of the former and a little less of the latter. This approach isn’t about achieving perfection overnight—it’s about taking small, consistent steps toward feeling better each day.?
