Achieving Net-Zero by 2050: How Flex MSE is Revolutionising Sustainable Construction

With increasing governmental demands to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability throughout the construction industry, the drive for sustainable building materials in green housing developments and infrastructure continues to increase.??

The ambitious targets to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, might prove challenging, however with Flex MSE now being incorporated into 1000's of projects, along with the industry's shift into sustainable solutions, these targets have never been more achievable.

Flex MSE is the first geomodular mechanically stabilised earth system that has achieved BBA HAPAS approval with a certification of achieving 120 year design life. Where the traditional approach to Highways would normally endorse concrete based solutions, motorways and main access roads are now opting for a greener approach.

In addition to retaining walls, urban planning is also focusing on creating sustainable and eco-friendly green public spaces, public transport and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and is now regularly specifying Flex MSE to form bridges, pathways and cycle routes.

Homebuyers will be seeing an increase in properties with green certifications like Biodiversity NET Gain or BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) to ensure the environmental performance and sustainability of the housing developments. Flex MSE's EPD Certification is a major milestone for geomodular retaining wall systems, demonstrating the carbon calculations when utilising the system.

There is also a major shift towards using recycled, locally sourced or site won materials in any construction project to reduce waste and promote a circular economy approach. Materials can be assessed for its suitability within a Flex MSE structure, significantly reducing the removal of materials offsite.?
