For ages, we have tried to understand technology but failed. Now, technology is trying to understand us and doing it pretty well. We call it machine learning—but the machines are learning the humans in reality, and once they master it, they will do the tasks better than humans. So, while you may not be as interested in technology as technology is interested in you, there is a great opportunity for friendship.
As the world changes, we must remember that these are not ordinary times and we are passing through a truly transformative phase. Those born after 2000 are the AI Natives, and those born before 2000 must become AI Migrants. We don’t have a choice. Let me give you a glimpse of what will change before the end of the decade.
- There will be software - AI in everything we use or do.
- We would do most of the work through Smart Surfaces and Smart Touch.
- Students will learn the most through ‘Gaming’, so the need for conventional teachers would be minimal.
- Security guards will be replaced by intelligent cameras and robots.
- Security personnel will not man scanners at railway stations and airports; they will be replaced by AI-enabled scanners that will do a much better job.
- Machine learning will more accurately diagnose, not pathologists or radiologists. Every doctor will double-check with technology before deciding on the line of treatment. Technology will provide the second opinion, if not the first line of treatment.
- Surgeries would be done through robots and machines, and doctors would be observers.
- Medicines will be tech-enabled – DTx.
- Treatment will only be with technology.
- Cars will reach a ‘safe automation’ standard where you could be driven by a car and not a driver so that the car will become the driver.
- Computers will not be hardware but ‘hardwired wearables’, but certainly, you will not be reading this from your tablet or mobile in 2030.
- You will not need currency to carry; it will be all digital.
- Facial technology will replace boarding passes or tickets. Service kiosks will be available if you still want a paper record, but they will be expensive. Indian airports are already using facial recognition, and you no longer need to carry your boarding pass or ID wherever there is DigiYatra.
- Roads will be able to tell you your time to destination based on your vehicle, speed, and driving skills; they will also charge your vehicle as you drive and diagnose if there is a problem.
- Based on your mood, available time, and preference for the genre, AI will create a customized novel or reading in seconds; you would not actually need authors. You will get a novel which you can complete in the available time at hand and your mood, as your digital twin will know your reading speed besides a host of other personal attributes.
- Your refrigerator/kitchen will be linked to your shopping list, and it will automatically place an order based on your itinerary and taste. You will not need to remember what to order.
- Every step you take will tell you how much you impacted the planet and your health and life years.
- Your glasses, watch bracelets, clothes, and accessories are all that you will need as gadgets and no bags or computers to carry along. So, we will live in one generation- A Wearable Generation. All Generations will become Gen-W.
- Moving to immortality—Our digital twins' presence will take us beyond our life spans, and our voice and thoughts will live after us. Humans would become virtually immortal or immortal in the virtual world.?
- Also, we will be able to realize what the famous singer, John Lennon envisioned in ‘Imagine’.
In summary, technology will allow you to do high-value tasks, and technology will handle mundane tasks. Also, your digital twin will live long after you live. This will likely happen before 2030; perhaps many things will happen in the next 1-2 years. Human beings will become exponential in their ability to think and do more.?
By 2050, we will be moving from Earth to other planets as we travel to other cities. The world will be hyperconnected, and inter-terrestrial travel will be a reality. We will be living in what we call the sci-fi age. This is also the age when we will be environmentally friendly and immortal, yet it will be an age of uncertainty for those who don’t adopt technology in the next three years. So, draft your digital transformation roadmap and start implementing it. It is not the change that should bother us; it is the speed and direction of change. If you don't change now, you will not only be left behind but may be trampled by the invisible force of technology.
