Achieved Ability vs. Received Ability

Achieved Ability vs. Received Ability

There are two?manifestations?of ability.?

The first type is “achieved” ability. This is what we work hard for. We go to school?to?earn?a degree. We develop our skills through experience on the job.?We practice.?We fail.?We learn and try again and get better?and often stumble into innovation.?All of this is part of our stewardship journey in learning and growing.?

But there is a second type of ability.

I call it “received” ability.?Received ability?is something only God can do. It is His touch on?your life and work. His anointing. His grace. There is a supernatural element?to?received ability?which propels you to accomplish?what you could not do on your own.??

One of my favorite?old testament?passages is the story of Bezalel from Exodus 31. He was the first recorded person to be “filled with the Spirit of God.” He was?anointed?for his work! Bezalel was a craftsman and a builder. His job was to build the tent of meeting which would house the presence of God.?

Bezalel had achieved abilities by learning a skill.?He was a skilled craftsman and designer with metals, wood and stone.?But God’s Spirit breathed on him?supernaturally to?accomplish his assignment?in a way that he could not have done in his own ability.?

The assignment given to Bezalel was to build a structure called the Tent of Meeting.?This was a portable structure for the people of Israel which would literally house the presence of God. The implications for Bezalel and others involved in this task to fulfill it with excellence were of immense?purpose and?consequence.??

?And we’re?no different.

Whatever assignment God has given you is meant to display His glory in the earth.?God wants to breath His Spirit on your work?and life?in order for?you?to?accomplish that assignment in His strength.

This is your competitive advantage.?

God can accomplish in a nanosecond what it might take you a lifetime of work to accomplish!?His ability to succeed far outweighs your ability to fail!?

So keep doing your part to steward your skills and abilities, and trust God to do His part to anoint your work for His glory.
