Not accumulate, but eliminate
Bruce Lee once said, “One does not accumulate, but eliminate. It is not daily increase, but decrease. The height of cultivation always runs to simplicity.”
?
The process of elimination can be used in all aspects of life. We are obliged to choose the values by which we live. We are obliged to choose more and more aspects of our existence from where we reside to what career we pursue to what lifestyle we select. Choosing the values is not mere an option but a prerogative for humans.
?
·???????? The process of elimination is an experimental technique for those who want better results in less time.
·???????? The process of elimination can be used to choose better options in order to achieve amazing results.
Three principles
There are three ways that you can eliminate, you can?do it by action, or you can eliminate by the?conscious decision not to act. Final layer is to?mindfully choose your actions.
1.?????? By?eliminating through action, you are choosing what to do, and as a consequence, you are creating opportunity cost. There is a positive aspect of opportunity cost.
2.?????? The second principle where you are making a?conscious decision to abandon the action?is also extremely necessary, as it will clear your mental bandwidth. Once you’ve made a conscious decision, you will stop feeling guilty about the commitment you’ve had with yourself.
3.????? The third aspect of elimination is mindful consciousness of your choices, as this will help you understand the value of your choices.
The Science behind It: The Pareto Principle.
Buffett’s 5/25 rule is based on the famous Pareto Principle. Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto coined the term in 1896 when he noted that 80% of the land owned in Italy was owned by the wealthiest 20%. Since then, this phenomenon has been noted in numerous business and economic analyses.
?
Why is the Pareto Principle, and Buffett’s 5/25 rule, so effective? The Pareto Principle is a phenomenon found throughout nature. It’s been analyzed as a mathematical model as the Pareto distribution. In short, it works because successful results have far more impact than unsuccessful ones. This means the majority of successful results (~80%) end up overwhelming the less successful results.
?
The?elimination?principle is about action, thus making it probably the most important part of the CORE (Collect, Organize, Review and Eliminate). You will always need to commit and to re-commit to nurturing your?power of Elimination
