Position Summary This position independently reviews credit balances located in Epic's credit work-queues for both insurance and self-pay accounts. The position independently determines and initiates action needed utilizing judgement, extensive knowledge, and interpretation of Epic documentation and scanned EOBs located in Hyland scanning or through PNC Bank's portal. Once the necessary action is determined, completes appropriate refund forms/correspondence. Medicare, Medicaid, and Blue Cross balances may include additional highly complex forms. Posts refund data into Epic, reconciles amounts entered into Epic balance with UICOMP refund forms, and produces a refund report. Provides transaction documentation to Accounting for check processing. Acts as backup for the Accounting Officer - Payment Posters during staff absences or during peak posting periods processing both electronic and manual third party and self-pay payments and verifying cash received/balances. The position works under general superv Duties & Responsibilities ? The Accounting Officer independently audits both insurance and self-pay credit balance information, located in Epic’s credit work-queues, in order to determine and initiate the appropriate action necessary to resolve the outstanding credits. This position retrieves and interprets the required payment documentation from Hyland’s scanned database and/or from PNC Bank’s online portal to determine next steps. The information retrieved denotes the payer(s) on the account either self-pay or insurance, if an overpayment actually occurred, or if the account was over-adjusted. This position utilizes a three-step decision tree and an in depth knowledge of policy and complex claims to determine the proper disposition. After analyzing all information retrieved, this position initiates, determines and prepares the refund documentation and assembles the necessary backup documentation required to complete often complex self-pays or insurance refunds. If the refund belongs to an insurance company, this position determines the submission mechanism - whether to submit the refund manually or to complete documentation online at the payer’s portal so that the insurance company can recoup the money. ? Once all pertinent refund information is compiled, this position enters/submits the overpayment amount into Epic. The Accounting Officer is responsible for then balancing and reporting refund totals with appropriate documentation to Accounting for additional processing and balancing. This position is also responsible for the completion of all additional documentation that may be required for complex payers such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Blue Cross. Once the insurance refund checks have been printed and received from the Urbana Office, this position aligns the insurance refund checks with the corresponding insurance refund forms and applicable backup data, makes copies of the checks, EOBs, etc., and mails the checks to the appropriate payer. ? Acts as a backup to the Accounting Officer – Payment Posting: processes both electronic and manual third party and self-pay payments during staff absences or peak posting times. Downloads and reviews electronic payments for accuracy prior to posting payments into Epic. Verifies that payments posted align with cash received. Determines which payments do not belong to the Peoria campus and lists those payments on the Unidentified Payments spreadsheet/report. Interfaces with the Accounting Officer in Accounting regarding any variances between Epic’s online posting and Accounting’s Banner software. ? Performs other related duties and research.
