Accountants of the past, present or future?

I went to see Muppets Christmas Carol in Queens Film Theatre recently, and what a wonderful story and movie it is from one of the greatest storytellers of all time, Charles Dickens.
The story of Ebenezer Scrooge is one that has been told many times over because it is a story that will always resonate and find meaning for us.
It made me think of a slightly different take on the story – one involving businesses here in Northern Ireland and their relationship with their accountant.
Does your accountant remind you of the ghost of Christmas past, present or future?
Do you meet your accountant once a year and pore over last year’s figures and the upcoming tax bill?
What benefit is that really to you and your business? What can you really do about the past?
Similar to Scrooge who gets a glimpse of what the future might look like, what would you be doing differently in your business if you could have a similar glimpse of the future?
More importantly, wouldn’t you rather see your accountant more often and start talking about the present of your business? How much profit are you making? How can you increase your profit? How can you plan ahead for your taxes? What does your future look like – how are you going to exit the business & plan for your retirement?
This is the type of relationship we want to have with our clients – to be talking about the present and the future rather than the past.
With online software such as Xero and Receipt bank we can help you get your accounts in “real time” so that you are in a position to know how your business is doing as of today, not 6 or 12 months ago.
Isn’t it time to take your business into the present with online accounting and the superb eco systems of apps it can bring? We have clients who have done just that and haven’t looked back as they are now saving lots of time with the book keeping and can keep a close eye on how their business is doing.
We can help you plan ahead for your taxes and for your retirement because we have the information at our finger tips rather than having to get this information from you retrospectively.
If that sounds like something you would be interested in, why not make your New Year’s resolution to start having this type of service with us rather than leaving it too late like Scrooge might be doing if he doesn’t change his ways, bah humbug to that!
