Accountability & Ownership: Taking Responsibility for Service Delivery

Accountability & Ownership: Taking Responsibility for Service Delivery

Selling services into an open market is often one of the trickiest things we can do as business owners. Often, folks aren't clear what it is we actually do and so we often need to package our services in a way that is understandable to the community. Things need to be kept simple and even then it can be quite challenging to understand what is going on as part of service delivery.

Regardless of whether we're handling productized selling or capability selling, we often need to be accountable to clients and keep them accountable to us within service delivery while being respectful on both sides of the aisle.

Taking Ownership and Accountability

Ownership & accountability within relationships is one of the biggest things you must do to be a good partner. Typically, it doesn't matter whether schedules are rigidly defined or loosely defined as long as we act within each other's best interests.

Issues arise when we stop short in, or in the implementation of, service delivery for one reason or another. Things will come up, but not being forthcoming as soon as possible with the people you work with only leads to bad outcomes for all involved. Instead, when something goes wrong, let someone know immediately about the issue and what you're doing to work around it.

When this happens, it conveys a different sense of love & respect than if we didn't communicate that at all.

Being the role model for the team

When something goes downhill, you want to be the person folks come to work through those issues. If you are an employee, this is how you become a senior leader. If you are a business owner, this is how you build a pool of trusted clients who become raving fans.

Ownership & accountability within these are about having the trust to work at the same pace and that everyone will act within each other's best interests. When all pieces are established, then we don't have an issue with building a solid client base that wants help solving issues time and time again.

But being willing to give up control, and knowing that despite that you're in good hands, is how we get to our end goals building a solid team of people who love us.
