Accountability without empowerment is a recipe for burnout and failure. If you hire a leader and don't empower them, you turn them into a tactical manager.?I am sure everyone has been in a situation where you were accountable to an outcome, but were not given autonomy to accomplish your goals or overcome a challenge.?It leads to stress and turnover.???
This could take many forms.?Not being given autonomy to…
- Make a decision
- Approve a strategic deal
- Approve an expense
- Get access to a tool
- Hire the right people at the right time
- Be transparent
Of course, we all must work within reasonable parameters and there must be cross functional unit checks and balances.?But with that in mind, I encourage all of you micromanagers out there to lean into your trusted leaders and loosen your grip a little to see how much faster your business can scale.?A sign of a great leader is how many leaders you create.?Accountability and empowerment builds new leaders' expertise much more quickly.
C-Suites - Do you hire leaders and support them in their autonomy providing boundaries and guidance when needed to ensure success or turn them into managers that neither help the business or your leaders thrive or scale?
