On accountability

Accountability is defined as the perceived expectation that our decisions or behaviours are going to be evaluated by someone we view as important, and that we will receive either rewards or punishments depending on whether our decisions or behaviours are evaluated in positive or negative terms (paraphrased from Hall & Ferris, 2011).
A major realisation for me recently, particularly in relation to anything I want to achieve that is not work-focused, is that I need accountability.
The second realisation is that my 15-year old makes an awesome accountability partner. Not only is he hugely motivational 'come on mum, you know that you can do it', 'how many steps have you done today?' he's also important - what he thinks of me matters to me. But he will not be the source of my reward for my efforts.
I have decided that if I walk at least 8000 steps a day and drink 3 pints of water each day in March, my reward will be a pottery workshop. It's something I've wanted to do for ages, but with many things, I feel that I need to 'earn it' (something I'm working on!).
My other experience with accountability has been acting as an accountability partner for someone else - a recently new client. And this is what truly brings me joy. We're using Voxxer between coaching sessions - something I've not done before, and for me it is wonderful to see my client doing the things they want to do and cheering them on between sessions. Dopamine hits all round!
This addition has brought a new dimension to me as a coach and I will be retaining this part of my coaching service going forward. If you're considering hiring me as a coach, I have three spaces open for the rest of 2024 so please reach out.
Accountability is also something at the core of Quiz Lab that starts April 12th. Online co-working lab sessions to help you create your quiz, and give you the accountability to make sure it gets done. It's so easy to think 'I'll get around to it some day', but as one of my recent participants in Quiz Camp said 'there's more to this than I thought'.
So Quiz Lab will bring together co-working, my oversight and a message-based community so you can pilot your content within a community. So if you know you want to create a quiz, want it based on something more than fluff, and are ready to start but know you need accountability, take a look at the Quiz Lab details HERE. And if you're not yet sure which kind of quiz you need to build in order to grow your business, you can find out by taking my new quiz strategy quiz HERE.
Wishing you all a fabulous March, and an inspiring International Women's Day!
