There are different ways a planet is understood to be malefic or benefic as per their placement in a house of a vedic horoscope.
Lets understand the conditions :
1. A planet can be a natural benefic as well as a functional benefic.

4. A planet can be a natural malefic but a functional benefic.
There are many more dictums / rules how a planet becomes benefic or malefic but we are not touching it as we are sticking to the base question.
Every planet in vedic astrology is good, bad and netural. The nature of the planet is derived on the basis of the placement in a particular horoscope and it keeps on differing from horoscope to horoscope as per their placements.
So from this understanding one can understand that a planet behaves like a benefic or a malefic under different circumstances and so there is no fix benefic or malefic planet in vedic astrology.
During our general basic study of astrology, one is taught about good and bad planets and when they keep up their study and go to the advance level of vedic astrology then they learn that no planet is good, bad or netural.
A planet achieve its dignity as per the placement in that horoscope and will not be same in every horoscope.
