Accessiversity Labs - Introducing Tales of the Reluctant Blind
At Accessiversity Labs, we launched our blog last October, Tales of the Reluctant Blind. The blog has since become a hub for my unapologetic, often comedic personal stories, that document the realities of living life with a visual disability. The purpose of this blog is to put names and faces with people like myself, individuals with disabilities who often struggle to navigate a world that isn’t always accessible to us. This blog will mainly be my story, my voice, my perspective on challenges and opportunities – and yes, my successes. And for every me, I know there are 10 other people with equally uplifting stories of pain and perseverance.
In future blog posts I hope to invite other guest contributors to tell their stories. I also hope to bring awareness to products and showcase service providers who are currently doing awesome, innovative things to support the visually impaired, and the broader disability community as a whole.
If you’re reading this, I believe you have a potential role to play in helping us bring awareness to this topic, and every voice is crucial to our mission of bringing more accessible options to companies, products and more, so individuals with disabilities can better navigate the physical and digital world that we all have to share.
Whether I’m offering up my perspectives as an accessibility consultant, a workforce development professional with 15+ years of experience or an individual with a disability, I will do my best to be informative while trying to keep things on topic. Above all else, I will always try to be genuine. I know I have a story to tell, and I think I have an audience that wants to hear it, so I will do my best to try and keep you all entertained while helping to inform you about what I feel are some extremely important topics.
Thank you in advance for reading, for sharing and for helping to advance the conversation about accessibility and disability-related issues.
