Accessible Bibles (and Other Publications)

We just sent out an announcement about our ability to produce fully compliant and accessible Bible ePubs using our Well-Formed Document Workflow. This includes every product range from devotional to study Bibles and more. The technical ability to do this represents a major step for our software to handle all types of complex publications.

This accomplishment is the result of two developments. First, we updated the software for the Digital Hub (the processing engine for the Well-Formed Document Workflow). It now will handle very large and complex books, such as Bibles, textbooks, and similar publications. Second, we refined the approach that we take to markup. Our markup methodology (Scribe Markup Language, or ScML) continues to ensure that all of the nuances required for print are handled. We accommodate various note sets, sidebars, heading structures, section introductions, specific character formatting, reference sets, formula, languages, and a host of other features in the markup. In our updated methodology, the output is a purer form of XML (without losing the representation features) that fits accessibility requirements and allows for deployment in various software platforms. This means that technically sophisticated publications, can be efficiently produced for print, easily made into an accessible ePub, then readily deployed through additional channels.
