“Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking, 'What's in it for me?.” ―?Brian Tracy
Last week, I traveled to Washington D.C. to attend the U.S. State Department's Young Leaders of the Americas (YLAI) closing forum.
This was my 3rd year being involved with the program, and I was particularly excited about this specific event.
And the reason I was so ecstatic was that I finally had the chance to meet a client I started working with back in 2021.
That client's name is Mykerline.
She is from Haiti, and as the founder of a local tourism venture, she has overcome a lot of hardships during her journey.
And since we started working together, an endless number of setbacks and obstacles have appeared out of thin air, including:
But, despite her circumstances, Mykerline found a way to stay the course, attend every one of our meetings, and grow both personally and professionally.
And even though I was coaching her through a screen, we connected, learned from each other, and created a mutually beneficial relationship.
Fast forward three years, we finally had the chance to meet each other in person:
I don't know about you, but putting a face, voice, and name onto a real person is an awesome feeling.
As much as I enjoy having an online-focused business, nothing beats real-life interactions with clients.
And when I am able to find a client that trusts themselves, trusts me, and trusts my process, this is what happens:

In sum, as a solopreneur (or any business owner for that matter), you must strive to provide a high-quality customer experience.
And even though much of your business could be done remotely or in an automated fashion, you can still be accessible to your clients.
That's because accessibility increases your value.
So from here on out, don't follow the status quo of capitalism and just do the bare minimum to just make a sale.
Get the sale, and also ensure that the delivery of your value proposition is ensured.
And when you can put that extra human touch onto your product or service, you create a win-win scenario for both you and your clients.
The proof is in the pudding above.
Until next time.

1 年Great post Craig. I'm a big believer in seek to give before seeking to get. It is definitely not the prevailing opinion, judging from the LinkedIn connections I get that flat out open with the help me, hire me, buy from me first approach. Keep up the great work. Wish I had known you were in DC. Love the YLAI program. I've worked with some entrepreneurs through SEED SPOT's work with that group. Let's catch up next time you are in town. mob --
