The accessibility alphabet

What to write after a successful IDPD hosted this year. I can only say, the crown on our awareness work in 2023 at ING. This weeks #TheIncluencer my personal #accessibility alphabet, to continue in the #IDPD spirit ??

A = accessibility we need

B = barriers we face

C = compliance to accessibility legislation improving our lives

D = dignity, which comes with acceptance

E = equity, the only path to equal opportunities

F = financial independence, equity which can only happen with accessibility

G = genuine drive for accessibility is needed to be impact full

H = healing unintended barriers by accessibility

I = independence which calls for barrier free

J = joy we (PwD's) experience like any other

K = kindness, which brings inclusion within reach

L = liberty, the freedom to make your own decision

M = maturity of understanding differences

N = nothing can exclude us

O = open interaction to learn about us

P = pride to be ourselves

Q = quality of Accessibility is not about WCAG Compliance, it is about user experience of persons with disabilities

R = reliable products and services are accessibility by design

S = society we (PwD's) belong too

T = true investment in disability inclusion will be recognized and rewarded

U = Universal Design, the foundation for WCAG

V = variety, our community of persons with disabilities is the most diverse minority community in the world

W = welcoming, accessibility is all about feeling welcome

X = xtra work delivering accessibility is no reason not to be accessible

Y = you, are responsible for accessibility of your content

Z = zero tolerance by the disability community for refusing to invest in accessibility

With this in mind, You can make the difference for your customers and employees with disabilities!

We should do a volume 2 with the 1-10 questions about disability inclusion example: 1. disability is not a bad word. Don’t correct us if we say we are disabled 2. check your implicit bias and ableism, do it even if you are disabled yourself 3. we don’t need your pity/prayers/paternalism/ableism 4. always ask before helping a disabled person 5. never touch an assistive device or support animal without permission. 6. don’t shout at us or infantilize us when we don’t understand/hear you 7. that we don’t talk does not mean we don’t understand 8. that we don’t look you in the eye does not mean we don’t listen or care about what you say 9. our fidgeting is not something against you. It helps us be more present, and listen better to what you are saying. Please don’t call it out in front of everyone to make us feel bad or ridicule us 10. dont make disability inclusion about you, even if you are disabled, it us about us, with us. And I’m sure we can make it to 100 these are just the ones at the top of my head ??

This is super cute, and you definitely should create a children boardbook with this content. You would get my money ASAP. It would get the first line before html, js and css for babies ????
