As an employer it can be challenging to identify learning and development opportunities suitable for your staff whilst also supporting talent attraction and retention strategies.
Our team of Skills and Business Engagement Managers work with businesses across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to provide fully funded support across a number of key areas including training and development, recruitment solutions and volunteer support.
Following National Apprenticeship Week 6th - 12th February, our first newsletter will focus on apprenticeships and the many benefits for businesses and individuals.
We will also explore how we can guide you through the process from levy funding to recruitment.
Does your business have the skills it needs to thrive and grow?
Businesses across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough face challenging times ahead.
Continued skills shortages, hard to fill vacancies and recruitment issues combined with the cost-of-living crisis means many employers face difficult decisions. For many, standard methods of recruitment are no longer enough.
Apprenticeships offer an effective solution to these challenges – giving you access to a wider talent pool.
Apprenticeships can also offer the opportunity to upskill existing employees and build your own in-house talent.
"Apprenticeships offer a great way into rewarding, long-term, skilled careers. Investing in apprenticeships has paid dividends for our business and the local community, helping stave off a potential skills shortage and creating pathways into rewarding, long-term careers for local people. We strongly recommend exploring the variety of options available to develop and up-skill your workforce inhouse.”
Martin Lawrence, Metalcraft
What are the benefits of apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are a great way to access the skills your business needs, through recruiting new talent, helping people change careers and upskilling your existing staff.
Apprenticeships offer the opportunity to:
What funding is available to employers?
Government funding can be accessed through the levy. The levy exists to fund apprenticeship training across both large and smaller employers.
As an overview:

??Payroll over £3m - you pay 0.5% of your total annual pay bill into the levy which you can then access to spend on apprenticeship training.
??Payroll under £3m - pay 5% of apprenticeship costs and the government pays the rest. Unspent levy funds can be transferred - large levy-paying businesses who pay the apprenticeship levy can pledge up to 25% of their unspent levy funds to a business of their choice.
Funding doesn’t have to be complicated - our team is here to talk you through the process, help you understand what's available and work with you to arrange levy transfer.

Should your business consider an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships span a wide range of sectors and offer qualifications from level 2 right up to degree level.
Through offering an apprenticeship, employers can ensure that the skills developed are matched to current and future needs. It will also help to raise skills levels in our area and ensure local employers have a robust pipeline of talent to guarantee a sustainable future.
We see first-hand the many benefits that apprenticeships offer and would encourage all businesses to explore the options available to their organisation.
Wherever you are on your apprenticeship journey we have resources available to support you.
The team at Growth Works with Skills is on hand to answer your questions and guide you through the process, from accessing levy funding to hiring an apprentice.
