Acceptance – A Great Option


In life we come across people, events, environmental changes and too many choices at times which make us feel helpless and frustrated. Some of these we can change. There we look at better possibilities and take action to correct or improve. Mahatma Gandhi said- be the change you wish to see in others.?

However, in some cases we cannot change the outside world/ people. In such cases also all is not lost. What can be done to mitigate/ lessen the impact is common sense. For clarity on the same ?possible action could be:?

Common Actions:??

  • Be aware of the impact- worst case scenario. Jot is down. [Journalising is important]?
  • Take care to be protected yourself by following a healthy routine of adequate rest, regular exercise/ games and good food.?
  • Make a written list of your achievements- throughout life and acknowledge yourself.?
  • Make a written list of blessings we normally take for granted specific to environment, people in our life and practice deliberate gratitude.*??
  • Accept self for what we are and what we are not first. Forgive self for mistakes committed. Then do this exercise for others as part of compassionate empathy.*?
  • Limit mindless addiction like watching news, mobile, social media, video games.[ easier said than done]?
  • Choose a support system and company of non-judgmental people to the extent possible and in severe times opt for counselling/ therapy.??
  • Practice relaxation through silence/ mindfulness and meditation.?
  • Keep active- keep moving as much as possible.?Play some games like scrabble, chess, bridge, wordle, sudoku...?
  • Improve your thoughts and beliefs by looking at the positive aspects of the person/ choice.????
  • Look at what is that you can do to resolve/ support others and do it. Find a new purpose. Start with small acts of contribution.??

I found this is the most liberating as there are billions not as blessed/ lucky as us. Once you have a purpose then viola- passion follows.?

  • An exercise which I learnt in Landmark many years back was to step back (figuratively), feel the frustration, guilt etc and see what solution appears. ?

Readers may add other ways or use AI which may give an idea. Look at that which are whether they are permanent / pervasive/ personal to self. If not controllable then we need to accept.??

Gautama Buddha observed that security comes from trading expectation for acceptance.?

Accept that which we cannot change- the beginning of the best part of life.??
