ACCEPT IMPERFECTIONS - Embrace your Imperfections

ACCEPT IMPERFECTIONS - Embrace your Imperfections

When I was 17 years old, a friend’s mother teased me saying that I was too thin and lanky. Little did she know that it would affect me psychologically and those remarks would stay with me for a pretty long time.

It was only when I started working many years later that I finally overcame the inferiority complex that I had developed about my body. From childhood, I had been a tall and lanky boy, and one woman had destroyed my confidence by teasing me multiple times about being thin and skinny.

In middle age now, and after many lessons learnt, I feel a bit wiser than before. The realisation now is that imperfection does not exist, at least not in living things. I say this with a lot of confidence now because all this hype about perfection and imperfection are creations of humans.

“She looks perfect!”

“He has the perfect abs!”

These comments don’t make sense to me anymore. I am happy with the way I am and the way I look. The colour of the skin, the size of the body, and the shape of the waist, and all of these do not matter.

Social media has its banes. One of them is trying to be perfect, at least in the pictures! You see someone holidaying and someone else showing you the “perfect” smile. That is when you look into the mirror and start questioning your imperfections!

I am no sage, and the only thing I can do is to suggest that you need not worry about perfection or imperfection. Do what you love and be who you are. And don’t forget to listen to my Podcast episode on this subject (scroll down for the links)!

BOOK I AM READING

I finally completed reading the book by Satya Nadella - Hit Refresh.?

It was an interesting read and gave me insights into Microsoft’s evolution over time, albeit mostly from Satya Nadella’s perspective.?

I enjoyed reading about the author’s roots. The book begins with “From Hyderabad to Redmond” which gives you an opportunity to be with Satya in his journey from India to the USA.?

Then the content moves to Microsoft. There are numerous leadership lessons and I quite liked reading the chapter on Cultural Renaissance. Satya and Microsoft are moving toward an ethical framework of AI Design and I am sure the economic growth of everyone is not such a distant dream after all.

On a personal note, I am not such a big fan of only economic growth, I believe in balance. More on that in a later edition of ZempoweR.

Have you got hold of my book “Dream Learn Act Achieve – simple steps to massive success”??

For the Learning & Development enthusiasts, here is a book to get insights from: “Learning and Development - from cost center to business partner.

When my friend said "Fantastic" after getting fired

WHAT ELSE?

My son and I spent a couple of hours with the Smartivity Stem Formers Rover Bot. We had also previously built the Smartivity DIY Tabletop Infinity Calendar Stationery Organizer. I personally believe in supporting my son in learning through activities, and after constructing we talk about how each of these works. He loves Science and has been exploring Science Kits as well. If you have kids at home, I would recommend using these kits for their development.

That is all for this week. Catch you again next week!
