Accept Then Act

Acceptance of one’s present situation?can lead to insight and direction.

It is when we accept the present moment for what it is and not how we would like for it to be, that we can act as the moment dictates, without reacting.?

Much of our anxiety in life comes from wishing that the present was different, than it already is. The truth is, situations are what they are and no amount of wishful thinking, can alter the present moment for what it already IS. We simply cannot go back in time and change anything. The desire to change or control what has already happened, is where our thinking really gets off track.?

Where we can direct our energy, is by accepting the current moment and whatever situation already exists, as if we had chosen it. It does NOT mean that we have to like what has happened. But, like it or not, we cannot change circumstances that already are. ?

Acceptance of what already IS keeps our mind more at ease and allows our innate, internal guidance system to surface, allowing us to realize that we can work through any situation to our benefit. Wildly and impulsively reacting to adverse circumstances creates unhappiness and irritation, leading to anxious feelings and actions that will not help the situation.

In contrast, if we calmly and objectively assess any given situation in real time, we will be better equipped to rationally choose the best action available, at that moment; then the next moment and the one after that.?

Viscerally and impulsively reacting is detrimental, while decisive action is liberating. It is not our actions alone that matter in the final analysis. It is the motivation and thoughts that are driving those actions that can either transform us and shape our well-being or defeat us.

It is important to understand that acceptance of what is does not mean resignation. Accepting a moment for what it is, does not mean that we are complicit with it or that we surrender to not being able to do something about it.?

We do not have to resign ourselves to feeling victimized by horrible events or experiences in our lives. If we accept the situation for what it already is, no matter how horrible, we will have all the resilience and power we need within us to navigate whatever may come out of the situation.?

If we are not overwhelmed by fighting a losing battle to change what already is; a battle that we cannot possibly win;? we can, instead, use that energy to constructively work through whatever challenges exist, while keeping our inner-self intact and protected from harm. We are victors, not victims when we choose to accept, then act wisely, in any of life’s adverse events.

Each of us is far greater than any circumstance in life that may come and go. There is tremendous power in remaining in the present moment and working within it, instead of against it. The present moment is all we ever really have and where the magic of our lives begins and ends. The present is our life.
