Accenture rocks Hour of Code
I was very proud of Accenture last week when I saw how our people rallied to support Code.org and the Hour of Code around the globe. This was the largest learning event in history and the people of Accenture made a big impact. There are very few ways that we can help change the world in an hour, but Hour of Code might well be one. It’s a grassroots movement to empower every student in every school to learn computer science and try an hour of code.
Accenture people were enthusiastic to team with Code.org because we support their vision. We are committed to addressing the gap in computer science literacy to better prepare youth for the digital world of the future.
To all Accenture people, I want to say a big THANK YOU for rallying The Accenture Way, with passion and energy! We showed up in 196 cities in 56 countries to do more than 12,000 Hours of Code.
This translates into literally tens of thousands of hours more as we reflect on the collective impact our people made around the globe. We taught coding to students at local schools. We teamed with Code.org at events. We coded with family, friends and colleagues. We spread the word through social media, and we challenged others to get involved. And, we had a lot of fun! Check out our video which captures the spirit of our participation.
It was a thrill for me to speak at the Hour of Code pep rally at NASDAQ and see the excitement of the students there doing their Hour of Code.
I am blown away by the results that we’ve seen around the world. It’s inspiring to see the number of students learning to code and discovering the possibilities of computer science—and see them get excited to learn more.
At Accenture, we are proud to team with Code.org. We must all do more to encourage greater interest in computer science in schools, especially for girls and underrepresented students of color. Coding is a skill that will be helpful for EVERY job in EVERY company around the world in the digital era. It helps prepare students with critical 21st century skills and a brighter future.
Many thanks to everyone who supported Hour of Code this week. It’s just the beginning. And Accenture is committed to this journey.

9 年Personally the best part of the hour of code initiative was finding out about the wealth of information available for free; I am currently taking an intro to programming class offered online for free at a top-notch US university !
