Accelerating Women's Agency in Senior Leadership: Tribe Catalysts

In December, Carla Maldonado, Ph.D. , Margaret Breen , Tünde Lukacs and I happened to sit next to each other the Boardroom Christmas dinner . In conversation we realized that we are a tribe, people who have similarity of values and commonality of aspiration. Interacting with each other as a community meant we could improve accountability and support each other with our professional goals.
As I reflect on my 25 years of experience navigating the intricate landscape of the business world, I find myself compelled to delve into the transformative power of communities, these tribes that propel women into senior leadership positions.?As a woman who is making her way in her career, I have done so with the incredible support of my peers, I've witnessed the shifts in workplace dynamics and the critical role that communities, these tribes, play in shaping the narrative for women leaders.?
The Current Landscape: A Call for Community Integration
In the ever-evolving corporate realm, fostering an environment that encourages the ascent of women into leadership roles is imperative. Despite considerable progress in recent years, women still face obstacles on their journey up to management.?
The glass ceiling, while showing signs of cracks, remains intact in many sectors. Recognizing the need for change, I advocate for a strategic embrace of community-centric initiatives to serve as catalysts in accelerating women's agency in senior leadership positions.
Case in Point: The Power of Mentorship Networks
One of the most potent tools in the arsenal of community catalysts is the establishment of mentorship networks. I've personally experienced the transformative effects of mentorship, both as a mentee and a mentor, in EY and with Roots Inspire . These networks not only provide invaluable guidance but also foster a sense of belonging and support that is instrumental in breaking down barriers.
Recently a friend-colleague mentioned Abbott | Diagnostics . Abbott has maintained a tradition of women in leadership positions, solidifying its reputation as a prominent workplace for women. The company's commitment to fostering female talent is evident in the numerous senior and executive employees who initiated their careers at Abbott and advanced through its ranks. This progress is attributed to Abbott's well-structured year-long mentorship program and its dedicated support for women, especially mothers, in realizing their utmost potential in the workplace.

Seasoned women executives paired with emerging leaders, create a symbiotic relationship where wisdom and experience flowed seamlessly. The mentees gain insights into navigating the complexities of the corporate world, while mentors find renewed inspiration through the fresh perspectives brought by their mentees.
By institutionalizing such programs, companies can actively contribute to dismantling the systemic challenges that hinder women's progress. I envision a future where mentorship networks are not just optional but integral components of organizational structures, providing a solid foundation for aspiring women leaders to thrive.
The Impact of Community-Driven Workshops on Self-Esteem and Camaraderie
Workshops and training sessions tailored to the unique needs of women in leadership positions play a pivotal role in enhancing self-esteem and fostering camaraderie. See Vanessa Gentile and Salesforce standing up and supporting bringwomenbacktowork.com .
As I envision the future, I see a corporate landscape where such? events are integral components of professional development programs. Companies that prioritize these initiatives will not only attract and retain top female talent but also create an environment where women feel empowered to assume leadership roles without reservation.?
Looking Ahead: A Future Shaped by Community Catalysts
As we navigate the complexities of the modern business world, it's crucial to look ahead and imagine a future where women's agency in senior leadership positions is not just a goal but a reality. Community catalysts are the driving force behind this transformative journey.
In the years to come, I anticipate a paradigm shift where communities play an even more prominent role in shaping workplace dynamics. Peer support groups, industry-wide alliances, and collaborative initiatives will become the norm rather than the exception. Picture a scenario where women in leadership positions actively engage with each other, sharing insights, challenges, and victories in a collective effort to break down barriers. Like Diana Markaki - Bartholdi with the Boardroom.
I extend a call to action for my fellow women in leadership positions. The future is not a distant destination; it is a path we actively shape today. Let us champion the cause of community-driven initiatives, recognizing their power to accelerate women's agency in senior leadership positions.?Embrace the power of communities, for in doing so, we not only propel ourselves forward but pave the way for the generations of women leaders who will follow in our footsteps. Together, let us craft a future where the C-suite too is diverse, inclusive, and reflective of the wealth of talent that exists in the professional landscape.
