Accelerated speed of change: preparing for the future - a thriving future

The other day my son said to me, “Mom, we should invest in Bitcoin.”

 "Bitcoin?” I asked. “Yes,” he said, “it is a revolution!”

I thought to myself - yes it is - and that is not the only revolution. It is also not the only investment we can make.

 There are so many things changing right now, not least the fact that women are stepping up and speaking up like never before. The era of automation is upon us and we are standing in front of many new innovations that have the potential to revolutionize our lives in more ways than one. Many jobs traditionally held by women such as sales and service roles are at risk of being taken over by robots – and the same applies to routine jobs in factories.

Although there are many reasons to be wary of the speed of change, there are also possibilities that our collective human potential could flourish, as these innovations make space for us to create and evolve.

Nevertheless, feeling anxious about the accelerated rate of change is an inescapable sensation in our current world of work. I am constantly in conversation with women at the peak of their careers, and many are telling me they feel overwhelmed as they find themselves with one foot in the old way of doing things and one in the new, without knowing exactly how things will work out.

So we ask, what is going on? Why is this happening and why to so many?

At the end of the month, many of us will meet in Oslo for the WINConference to find answers and take a new step as we together Create a thriving future. What is so great about the WIN programme is that just as we work and explore what is happening in the outer world, we also gather in the morning for meditation, for yoga, for dance and for joy.

Because our journeys are both inner and outer, individual as well as collective.

I have a sense that never before has that holistic and nurturing approach that is the signature of the WIN programme been more relevant. Never before has it been more important to meet face-to-face to connect with each other, to understand the impact of our actions in an interconnected world, and to do business in a new way. For it is true: when I feel connected to myself, to others, and to the sweet things of life, I feel safe inside. From that place, that connected place, I can also take risks, rise up and move forward. 

We know that coming together with other fine individuals in person at this time is a significant investment in our future, as we gather to create a thriving future for all. Now that is definitely an investment with high returns!
