Accelerated Evolution: The Future of Humanoid Robotics Secures $14 Million Funding Round

In a world increasingly dominated by artificial intelligence, a new player is stepping onto the stage of humanoid robotics. Accelerated Evolution, a pioneering company in the field, has successfully completed a Pre-A funding round of approximately $14 million (100 million yuan), aiming to redefine how robots interact with the physical world. This funding, supported by notable investors including Bi'an Times and Minsheng International, will enhance the company’s development of versatile bipedal robots and robust software solutions.

The Rise of Humanoid Robots

Cheng Hao, the CEO of Accelerated Evolution, believes the current surge in humanoid robotics is fueled by advances in AI. He argues that artificial general intelligence (AGI) requires new forms of interaction, particularly those that can impact the physical environment. “The breakthrough for humanoid robots lies in transitioning from specialized tasks to general capabilities,” he explained.

The company's initial strategy focuses on providing a bipedal robot coupled with a control algorithm development platform. This enables developers to train robots to perform a wide array of tasks across diverse scenarios, thereby fostering collaboration and innovation within the robotics community.

A Unique Approach to Robotics

Unlike many competitors that opt for wheeled designs, Accelerated Evolution is committed to creating robots that walk on two legs—a significantly more complex challenge. Cheng highlighted that mimicking human movement is essential for performing everyday tasks. For instance, to open a door, a robot must coordinate its legs and hips much like a human would.

Currently, the Booster T1, a bipedal robot standing at 1.1 meters tall and weighing 29 kilograms, showcases impressive agility and stability. This robot serves as a testbed for developers, allowing them to explore various applications.

Innovative Demonstrations and Commercial Plans

At this year's World Robot Conference, Accelerated Evolution captivated audiences by demonstrating multiple robots playing football. This not only underscored the robots' athletic capabilities but also highlighted their ability to make real-time judgments in competitive scenarios.

Cheng pointed out that football requires a high level of intelligence and adaptability, making it an ideal benchmark for assessing a robot’s capabilities. As the company prepares for small-batch production and delivery of commercial orders later this year, it is also gearing up for another funding round.

Strong Leadership and Expertise

Cheng Hao's background as a Tsinghua University graduate, combined with nearly a decade of experience in product development at major tech firms, positions him as a strong leader in this innovative field. Additionally, the company’s chief scientist, Zhao Guoming, brings over 20 years of experience in legged robotics and systems, enhancing Accelerated Evolution's technical credibility.

Investor Insights

Feedback from investors reflects optimism about the company's trajectory:

  • Wang Pinghong, Chairman of Bi'an Times, praised the rapid development of the Booster T1, noting its improved stability and intelligence within just two months.
  • He Xiao, Vice President of Minsheng International, emphasized the significance of integrating robot intelligence with athleticism, suggesting that this innovation could redefine the role of robots in dynamic environments.
  • Liu Xi, a partner at iCANX Fund, highlighted the company’s swift evolution and its potential to lead the humanoid robot ecosystem.
  • Li Zhu, founding partner of Inno Angel, commended the team’s robust technological foundation and effective market positioning, reaffirming his commitment to continued investment.
