Accelerate your sales leadership career and achieve your dreams in 2020

Make 2020 the year your dreams become a reality. If I can do it, you can too.

If you’ve ever come to one of our Sales Confidence events, you’ll know about our 7-minute talks. What you may not know is that I’ve never actually done one before. In almost 3 years of running Sales Confidence, I’ve never taken to the stage to impart some wisdom for 7 minutes — until now. On 20th November, at London’s stunning Andaz Hotel, I’ll be taking the plunge for the first time. This is what I want to talk about: accelerating your sales leadership career and achieving your dreams in 2020.

Looking forward and back

We’re near the end of the year now and while I’m strategizing and looking forward to 2020, I can’t help but think of where I was a year ago. Around this time last year, I spent 50 days in a mental health hospital. It’s what was needed, a blessing and a break. However, the outcome of my stay could have been very different, had I not drawn on my inner strength and confidence, as well as a deep personal sense of belief to overcome my challenges.

Now, I’m managing my bipolar and I’m well. But that’s not all. I’m running two successful businesses, Sales Confidence and SaaSGrowth. I’ve assembled a great team of people around me. I also take time to spend with my family, including my three children, as well as make time for fun!

Why am I telling you this? It’s because I dreamed of this being my life for a long time.

The power of dreams

I’ve got a question for you. Do you dream?

You probably do. I imagine your dreams are pretty random, whatever your brain decides to present to with on that specific night.

Not for me. I dream by design. I love to dream. It’s fun. In fact, I’m daydreaming as I write this!

My dreams feel as real as they can possibly be. I experience sounds in my dreams, colours, vibrancy. I also have the ability to influence my dreams. I project where I want to be in 5, 10, 20, even 30 years’ time, right down to the smallest details. Then, I dream about it.

While my dreams always feel real, I know they’re not. I know they’re still only dreams. I’m not delusional. However, what I do know is that with dedication and hard work, I can get to that place where I am in my dreams. It’s the art of the possible. Everything I’m setting out to achieve has already been done by others. So why not me? Why not you?

How about you?

I don’t expect you to be able to design your dreams as I do. But, I think you should have dreams that you want to work towards. So, what’s your dream for 2020? What would you like to achieve in the area of sales leadership?

Don’t just accept the targets handed down to you by some executives, VCs or a board. Make it truly yours.

Once you have your dream in place, set a framework for achieving it. Write it down. Take responsibility for it.

What do you need to do to make incremental improvements that fast-forward your career trajectory? Upskill if you need to. Invest in mentors and coaches.

Give yourself the freedom and flexibility to dream and aspire to the ideal life you want in 2020. This time next year, you’ll have the level of experience and the clarity of purpose that you’ll be the happiest you’ve ever been.

The Sales Confidence vision

As for me, the reason I’ve been able to overcome these challenges in my life is that I believe in myself, my vision for Sales Confidence and my willingness to do whatever it takes to make my dreams a reality.

I have perspective on this. I may not achieve everything I want to, but that’s not a problem. I’m not attached to the outcome; it’s all about the process.

My vision is to build the worlds largest B2B Sales Community and elevate the sales profession by helping salespeople develop their performance, mindset awareness and wellbeing at each stage of their career. It’s working well so far, but there’s still much more to do.

So, take a minute.

Close your eyes and add colour to your dream.

You deserve it.
