To accelerate your job search during a recession, you need a plan.
Because when you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
Here's a simple plan that you can adopt into your job search: The Interview-A-Week plan. If you can get at least one hiring manager face-to-face interview (including video interviews) each week, you'll land a job quickly during this recession. If you can't get to this level of interview activity, your job search will look more like the average 8 month job search - long, frustrating and expensive.
The Interview-A-Week plan contains three steps to get you to one hiring manager face-to-face interview per week:
- Resume Improvement: Recognize that your current resume isn't adequate to accelerate your job search, and it's not good enough to land an interview per week - It's holding you back. To get to a high enough interview activity level, you need a resume that is more than good, more than ok ... your resume needs to command attention.
- First Impression: Your resume needs to make the first impression that you're more than just qualified. It needs to show your reader that you're a superior candidate, in a gut feel, internalized first impression. The rest of your resume needs to prove that you're the top candidate by overwhelming your reader with the impact you've made in past jobs - This allows you to back up your first impression. Finally, you need to make an in-person first impression that's consistent with the impression you make on your resume.
- Bypassing ATSs And HR: Rather than trying to guess keywords to get through an ATS, bypass it completely by changing your job search process. The way you job search network currently still funnels you into HR and an Applicant Tracking System. You try to bypass HR, but the process you use isn't causing you to advance, because your efforts to get around HR aren't successful.
The good thing is anyone can do this, because you don't have to be the smartest or most qualified, but you do have to approach your resume and job search differently if you want better results.
You would already be doing these steps if you knew how, but no one has taught you. The job search resources you've depended on teach you to look average, qualified, like everyone else ... but they haven't taught you to stand out.
Now's your chance - Here's where you can learn more about these three steps and additional ways to accelerate your job search during the recession.
This is the 3rd recession I've recruited/coached through, so I've seen first hand what resume and job search strategies succeed during recessions. I've also seen mistakes candidates make, causing their recession job searches to fail. I've been through this before and know what works and what doesn't.
That's why numerous job seekers who work with me have already gotten job offers this March, April, May, and June.
As a top national recruiter who reads hundreds of resumes per day, who has helped hundreds of thousands of candidates in their job search, and seen thousands of employers' job search processes from the inside, I've got a different perspective than most career coaches.
I see that most job seekers do essentially the same things, even when they think they are job searching differently. I also see most job seekers were taught search methods that get screened out by ATSs and eliminate them from consideration, because they conflict with the employer's hiring process.
But I've been teaching job seekers to overcome unemployment for 13+ years by using non-traditional resume/job search strategies that demonstrate impact rather than just being average. I'll show you how to beat unemployment (even if you're over 40) and find a great job during the recession by understanding employers' point of view and hiring processes ... and using this understanding to beat your competition.
(I'm not just a career coach. I've also been a top national recruiter for the last 16+ years ... so you'll get advice from an insider's point of view.)
Let me show you what you can do now to change your job search and resume so you can find a great job during the recession, especially if you're between jobs.
