Accelerate Learning by Slowing Down Time

Since AI is apparently NOT taking over our jobs, ?? continuous learning will be required to take advantage of the latest technological tools.? Whether you’re doing graphic design, writing, application development, or analytics, or maybe you just bought your first Tesla or Apple Vision Pro, there’s no shortage of new things to learn.?? It feels overwhelming at times.? In fact, this is a fundamentally unfair competition, because each one of us has to take on THOUSANDS of developers out there building new stuff every day.? Ever felt that way? Like every Monday? ????

Unfortunately, that scarcity mindset only increases stress and seems to speed up time.???

Creating your own “Bullet Time”?

Challenges like this require us to learn and adapt, and it seems slowing down time is one of the key steps to becoming Neo (new people).? Let’s talk about THAT.? Perhaps we can all benefit from looking at several key tools for your toolbox for slowing things down and learning what we need to.?

?

  • The first step for getting time on your side is simply showing up every day with an eager curiosity to learn something new every day.? James Clear expounds on this in Atomic Habits, but suffice it to say that doing something instead of nothing EVERY DAY is a solid place to start building a learning lifestyle of getting 1% better every day.? And remember, even your “bad days” are actually still moving forward ???

  • Walk before you run.? This is a great place to leverage your chat bot of choice.? When you’re learning something new, ask a bot to explain to you at a 6th grade level the concepts behind the thing you're trying to learn.??? And, once you think you have a reasonable handle on the fundamentals, find someone you can share it with.? This helps both of you.? (Feynman Technique)?

  • Create your own project.? With a foundation in place, this is where the real learning begins as you make mistakes and fumble through the reality of the details.?? There’s no substitute for getting your hands dirty. You will need grit to persevere, so cultivating some fun and/or a long-term vision of the value of what you’re learning is valuable.?

  • Practice Deep Learning. This is very important part of slowing down time to your advantage to maximize learning.? At each step try and intuitively remember how to do each step correctly. As you inevitably make mistakes, stop, research it, and get it right.? Consult a friend or chat bot as needed.???

  • WHY something works or doesn’t work is often more important in the long run.? Don’t just accept the “happy path” and move on.?

  • Lastly, find some people to share the journey with.? There are always others who are not as far along as you are, and they can learn from you.? Cross-pollinating with amazing people in other disciplines is also very motivating and can add a lot of texture and depth to your understanding of the world.?

GO BE CURIOUS and dig into real situations with real people.???

It’s one of the best ways to push back on biased thinking and??

slow??

down??

time ???

You will be amazed at the new person you become.??
