My apologies for the math in the video. 9/11 was 21 years ago today.
This past week I visited The National September 11 Memorial & Museum. It was extremely moving. The bravery and courage of the first responders were both inspiring and sad. If you haven't already, it is worth the trip to New York City to see and feel. Here's a picture I took. Check out the date and time the photo was taken.
21 years ago today, I was in California for an HP conference. I got up early, went to the hotel gym, got on the treadmill, and was shocked by what I saw on the TV.
It was the aftermath of two jets flying into the World Trade Center towers. It was horrifying.
Life would be different from that day on.
So would my business. The cheese had moved. But I didn’t. Not for a long time.
I wanted everything to be the same. Our business was rocking. Surely everything would get back to normal.
It did not.
Have you ever wished for something to be one way and ignored the reality of the situation?
The late sales trainer Rick Page titled his book, Hope is not a strategy. That is some of the best advice I’ve ever heard. As a leader, you cannot ignore the facts on the ground. While we would prefer to lead with our hearts instead of our heads, it’s a recipe for disaster.
Tough decisions are not easy. That’s why they’re called tough. Changing course away from something you put your heart and soul into, isn’t easy. It takes courage and sometimes checking your ego at the door.
If the situation around you is changing, take note. And then take action. Most problems don’t go away on their own. If you’ve ever owned a home or had a really bad employee, you know what I’m talking about.
Today’s Sunday Starter is short. But the message is clear and comes with your Action Item and mission, should you decide to accept it. Look at all parts of your business. Do you see anything that doesn’t look or feel right and hope it just might change or go away on its own?
It won’t.
Accelerate the inevitable.
Have the courage, discipline, and fortitude to look a negative situation squarely in the eye and take action. Today.
With this step, you will build another layer of resilience to outlast the competition. You got this. You can do it. Your future self will thank you.
Blessing to the families for the loss that terrible day.
??Please share this if you think others would benefit from learning the three P’s.
Remember, one hand washes the other, and together they get clean. Thank you for watching. Have a really rewarding week and I’ll see you next time.
