Accelera to Build Battery Cell Facility in Mississippi

Accelera by Cummins?announced?that it has selected Marshall County, Mississippi, as the location for a battery cell manufacturing facility as part of a joint venture with Daimler Trucks and PACCAR.?

The companies expect the 21-gigawatt-hour factory to begin battery cell production in 2027.?

The joint venture anticipates creating over 2,000 manufacturing jobs and localizing production for commercial electric vehicles (EVs). The partnership also features an option to expand based on demand.

Executives from Cummins, Daimler Truck North America, and PACCAR explained that localized battery cell production would help the commercial vehicle sector decarbonize its operations and transition to zero-emission technologies, aligning with the Paris Climate Agreement.

Accelera, PACCAR, and Daimler Truck announced their joint venture last September. Each company will own a 30% stake, concentrating on lithium-iron-phosphate battery technology. EVE Energy, an LFP manufacturer and technology partner with a 10% ownership, will contribute its battery cell manufacturing and design experience.?

Accelera by Cummins, a zero-emissions business segment of the power technology corporation, serves as a components integrator and supplier. The company focuses on hydrogen fuel cells, batteries, e-axles, traction drives, and electrolyzers. It currently operates in Asia, Europe, and North America.?
