ACCA Auditing - How Does It Work?

You’ve heard the news - ACCA students are now eligible to gain Registered Auditor status in South Africa!?This is due to a new pathway created by the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA).?

But how does it work?

Here are the steps you need to follow to gain Registered Auditor status with ACCA;

STEP 1

To start off, candidates will need to pass the South African variants of the ACCA’s Corporate & Business Law examination and the ZA Taxation examination.

STEP 2

Next, candidates will need to complete the Strategic Business Leader, Strategic Business Reporting and the Advanced Audit and Assurance (International) examinations.?

They will then have a choice of completing either the ZA Advanced Taxation or Advanced Financial Management examinations.??

Current ACCA students who have already passed the examinations in Step 1 can skip straight to Step 2 without having to rewrite them. Exemptions will also apply for any Step 2 examinations that have been completed.?

STEP 3

Candidates will need to show three years of practical experience with an ACCA Approved Employer, holding the Practising Certificate Development Audit stream status in South Africa. Past work experience DOES apply.

STEP 4

Once all the exams are completed and the candidates have 3 years of relevant work experience to show, they are then eligible to enrol in IRBA’s Audit Development Programme. This 18-month programme involves a period of work under the supervision of a Registered Auditor.

Once completed, candidates will gain Registered Auditor status in South Africa.
