As the Academy Awards is finally recognizing the thankless job of being a Casting Director (only took 98 years of films). Someday, we may get some more recognition than just our fee... (equity anyone?)

I'm sure it takes many years of casting experience to know when to encourage a successful actor to consider a film project while helping the producer and director to see the fit for the film. The producer and director of a blockbuster film "always" knew the chemistry between the actors would lead the audience to suspend their disbelief and lean into their film. I also imagine when the chemistry is off and the film is disaster, the Casting Director must not have presented the right actors for the film’s success. Ugh.
As is often true in my business it takes years to understand people deeply and how they interact on leadership teams. As the Casting Director looks at the script we look at where the company is in their growth cycle and their future business plans to guide us. Then we go out searching for candidates with complimentary experience, strengths covering other members’ weaknesses, similar values, self-awareness, emotional maturity, and other dimensions. The best feeling is when you check in with a board member or exectutive leader to find the business plans are on track and the team is enjoying their work.
